Hibiscus! So THATS' what those are! They're planted all over near the courthouse and other official areas downtown here and I drive by and think "what ARE those gorgeous saucer-sized flowers?!" (I'm in zone 6b, Ohio, TBH I didn't think they would grow here, guess I was wrong!)

I have hibs all over, some are called rose-of-sharon, and I have two or three of the dinnerplate sized ones, only a few purples have bloomed, I've noticed my street has a much later micro-climate, we don't get the severe storms nor the amounts of rain other places do and my redbud, flowering dogwood and the hibs bloom much later that on other streets close by. And mine are azll in full sun.

I live on top of a hill and the wind and storms hit harder up here than the rest of the city, on the plus side we don't ever get flooded... but the wind and rain storms wreak havoc. I'm going to have to incorporate them in my flower garden anyway though! I love them!

I don't think the hibs are susceptable to storms I was just showing we have an odd micro-climate on our ded end street. Actually the hibs are extremely hardy.
