Another Garlic Question

I asked yesterday about harvesting my garlic.  General concensus was yes! Get it out of the ground!  So I did.  Chopped some up last night for my dinner and man was it tastey.  *grin ( Read more... )

You can plant those, but they'll take at least two growing seasons to mature into plants big enough to harvest. They should form garlic-shaped solid bulbs after the first year and regular garlic bulbs the following year.

General rule I've read (on lots and lots of research about garlic) is that the bigger the clove, the bigger the garlic heads that will result. So I'd definitely stick with planting the cloves from the head (and then, only the biggest ones). I think most people save however many heads/cloves that they intend to plant for the next season, and eat the rest.

I only planted 2 last year so I was sort of hoping I could just plant the little ones and have both heads of garlic for myself. I've already started using one head but the other is now reserved for planting. NEXT year I can have more garlic :-)
