the flowers are really pretty, you're in for a treat!

they're also edible

I've never heard of sweet potato squash, it sounds yummy

I love squash blossoms, I batter them up with tempura [?]and stir fry them, they are delicious!

tempura batter
1 egg
1 cup ice water
1 cup all purpose flour
Preparation:
Beat an egg in a bowl. Add ice water in the bowl. Be sure to use very cold water. Add sifted flour in the bowl and mix lightly. Be careful not to overmix the batter.
Makes 4 servings

This one is a female blossom, you can see the squash fruit starting to form at the base. Males are around only for pollination, so you won't get squash from them. You can eat the males and leave the females behind to grow into squash. Just don't eat *all* the males or you won't get any fruit... :)

ahh, that explains it! There are a few other flowers on the vines, but they don't have the fruit underneath. I kept thinking "Why?!" Now I know : )
