Review of supplier: Johnny's Selected Seeds

Usually garlic goes outside because it needs a period of cold to bulb up. You can plant a few cloves in a container and grow them in a sunny window inside for garlic greens though, which are delicious.

I read about them in Good Earth News a lot, referred by the readers. They seem to have a great mindset for customer service and quality. Glad to hear another good review! Thank you for the referral.

I'm trying to get in the habit of reviewing suppliers here since I find it really helpful when other people post reviews here.

I know Johnny's is supposed to be good; but, oddly, I had the second worst germination with Johnny's seeds--just slightly above Thompson and Morgan.

I do find though that some companies just turn out to be duds for me too, no matter how good they work out for others.

They seem pretty customer service oriented, they'd probably have offered to replace the unsuccessful product if you ask.

I know its wrong for desease reasons etc., but I just find that seed garlic is just too expensive. It costs more to grow than buy if you buy seed heads.

I'm such a cheapo in most other areas (lots of seed saving, seed exchanges, propagation from cuttings, etc.) that I don't mind putting up a little cash for the seed garlic. I also like to try out varieties more likely to perform better in the South.

Yes, I was happy with Johnny's when I ordered from them this last spring. I may order from them again for next season, depending.
