Oh rats

So I live in Baltimore City. I have always had a little garden whether in pots or in what little backyard I had. But for some reason I am having a time with rats. Any suggestions on how to keep them from eating, destroying plants. Poison is out of the question because we have a dog and a cat ( Read more... )

you can set Live traps, they also don't like chilli powder, you can sprinkle it around your plants, when they go by sniffing it to strong and they stay away.

but live traps, caught the animal unhurt, so if it caught her animal, she could just release it.

i'd go with chili powder...it'll keep your pets away, as well as the rodent buggers.

I heard oil of peppermint is supposed to repel all rodents, I'd like to know if it actually works, not sure if peppermint plants planted around would work. I'm surprised your cat and dog don't scare them off.

About the live trap, you could put the trap where your pets can't get at it. Years ago on the farm my Dad used warfaren but put the poison in a closed shed where only rodents could get in and it worked, none of our other animals got poisoned.

How about a trap with poison in it. Say a closed cardboard box with a toilet paper roll entrance. Rat goes in for the chow poison, leaves without your pets getting access? Just a thought.
