Canon, Fanon and mothers

I have to make Naomi do something bad in a story I'm writing, and I feel pretty lousy about it. I feel sometimes like I'm the lone flag waver in the pro-Naomi, pro-Carolyn camp. But then again, I'm such a Pollyanna that I once came up with a plausible and sympathetic excuse for Chancellor Edwards ( Read more... )

Well, my first instinct is that it definitely sounds like Naomi. In canon she shows a clear tendency to do what she thinks is right, while disregarding the express wishes of others. I think she would do it, yes, and that she would also be thoroughly convinced it was the caring thing to do :-)

BTW, I can't wait to read it... *g*

Thanks! Glad it rang true for you. Kscope is always tricky bastard writing, so this one may take a bit, but man, I'm already really liking what's on the page and I can't wait to show it off!

It works for me. Don't forget that one of Blair's personas is BJ and Naomi is going to react like raging, protective Mama Bear if she thinks Jim is hurting her baby. Even if she concedes Jim's doing what he thinks is right. It's the battle of conflicting views on what's best for Blair.

Yeah, plus she's probably never felt Jim had her baby's best interests at heart, considering how often Blair gets hurt helping Jim...

Sounds very plausible, and not really that "bad." Just a loving mother doing what she can to help her baby boy get better.

Good, that's exactly what I'm aiming for. Thanks for taking a load off my mind.

:::thrilled that you are working on Kscope::::

Yes, it would be entirely plausible for Naomi to do that. She is Blair's mother, but I can't help looking at this from -both- Jim -and- Blair's POV. She is butting in, yet again. Doing what she thinks is right, without considering the consequences.

And if I were Jim, I'd be so thoroughly pissed at Naomi, I'd park her ass in jail.

BTW, I never saw Carolyn as the bad guy. I kind of liked her character, as under utilized as she was. Lot of wasted potential there.

As for Naomi, I don't have a whole lot of use for her. Her actions in TSbyBS were way over the line, especially when she has the nerve to ask Blair if he is mad at her, with the big teary eyes and quivery lip. Ugh!

Opinionated? Moi? ;-)

Oh absolutely she's butting in, and they're gonna be pissed as hell. But I needed to make sure that from her perspective, what she's doing is both kind and reasonable to an outside observer. I feel like some authors push the envelope to the point where she's no longer a functional or likeable human being.

But hey, I like your opinionated self quite well. :)

sounds COMPLETELY reasonable and in character. Naomi is doing what she feels is best for Blair. It's what a loving mother would do for her son...

though i'm sure JIM'S not going to see it that way. ::eep::

(and i'm in the pro-Naomi and pro-Carolyn camp as well.)

peace,
