Just a older one I wrote a couple of months ago.
Indian playing soccer? Sure why not. That Indian happens to be female? Thumbs up. Making a movie about it? Sadly that doesn’t work and we’re left with this flop.
Bend It like Beckham (directed by Gurinder Chadha) involves an Indian Girl named Jess (Parminder Nagra) a teenager with a passion for soccer

And it wasn't the love triangle thing, it was the fact that it was poorly executed. And it really sounded like something similar to a teacher/student scandal.

So, basically, I hated the whole love-triangle-sub-plot they attempted to make work. Attempted being the key word.
That aside, however, I did enjoy Kiera Knightly. Granted, the movie itself wasn't great, but her performance as Jules was. She was...well, tomboyish and sporty (if you'll forgive the labeling) and rebellious. She was everything Jules had to be. Jess, however, was just pain to watch. No that I would've gotten it if it had ended as Joe/Jules either since there wasn't much chemistry there either (although I think they had more than Joe/Jess). It would've been more realistic if he had simply chosen neither.
But what I really ( ... )

My problem with the title is that it didn't have anything to do with Beckham.

I wouldn't go that far. I didn't like her in Pride and Prejudice.

Exactly! Thats why I felt it was sucking-up-y. It's like, to make the film 'popular', they had Beckham make a guest appearance (if you could call it that) and in order to make it 'worth his while' they named the show after him.
