As for your predicament, I'd only do a combine journal if she's the type to update frequently. Nothing is more depressing that finding that you're the only one posting. You can always comment on one another's journal as a way to stay in contact, instead of the two of you haveing a journal. As for her LJ name, I have no clue. Again, it depends if it's her personal journal, or a journal for the both of you. Hope I could help a little!

And for the advice, I'll say that she should be the owner and poster on the journal. Well, the point is to keep in contact, right? That way, you can still post a comment on her journal. If you two are the owners and posters, the journal won't be hers alone, while you meant to give it to her as a gift. For the name, I have no idea. ^^;;
Again, this is only my opinion, you know your friend better than anyone, therefore your whatever decision you take, it's the best for you two.
And yup, I think I'll make that journal only for her, it would be less complicated that way (even though I'll have to start it with her beside me, for the sake of e-mail address XD) Thanks for help!
