What book are you reading now?
Only reading one book? That's so funny. At the moment, I am reading Lexicon by Max Barry and Players by Terence Dicks. The first is a physical book while the second is an ebook. I usually have at least one ebook downloaded on my phone so that I always have something to read whenever I'm stuck waiting ( Read more... )

I only very rarely read two books at once, and then only if I have a good reason (like an illustrated HP I only read at home). My GR account is an illusion as it often lists me as reading a bunch of books. It's just that I haven't reviewed them yet and don't mark them as finished until I do. So once in a while there's a day where it looks like I finish 5 books simultaneousy XD

Yes, I have copies of HP that don't leave the house so that would be another reason why I'd have a second book on the go at the same time. There have been some occasions when I've started a new book because I wasn't feeling the one I was currently reading. Does Goodreads not let you set the date that you actually finished a book? I don't remember, I used to have an account there but I deleted it.

Yes it does so I backdate them to the day I actually finished them, but that action gets posted on my feed on the day I do it. Like there's a book I finished on the 3rd that I haven't reviewed yet, so when I do the review will be posted on GR and Twitter on that day, but I'll date it Feb 3, so when I go back to my list it will be listed on that day and not the date I wrote the review.

I could also mark it as read immediately and add the review later, but leaving it as active reminds me to write the review. If it was aready out of my sight I'd probably never get around to it.

Oh, I see. I didn't have any friends on Goodreads when I had my account so I didn't realise that. I used to leave my books as in progress until I'd written the review so that I didn't forget about doing it as well! It's so easily done, especially when you've got a lot of reviews to write and a lot of reading to do.

I love the quote from the Beaumont book ... not sure too many people still get it, though?

I can't listen to audiobooks when I drive either - I just can't concentrate on both.

When I started reading books in English I went with books I'd read in German before as well. It sure helps a lot.

I generally don't lend books either because yeah ... I'm very particular with my books and I hate getting them back in not so pristine condition.

Loved Enid Blyton as well as a kid. :-)

I don't think many people do get the Beaumont quote. It's like a good way to find out if people are on your wavelength!

I saw a tip where someone had got the audio book version of the first Harry Potter book in German as well as the book itself, so they could follow the text along with the audio. Apparently that was very helpful.

Enid Blyton has lost a lot of her popularity now because her books are quite dated. It's a shame really.

I thought it may be more of an age thing and young(er) people don't know Nirvana anymore?

I think Enid Blyton's books were already a bit dated in the 70s ... *lol*

I'm not sure, I know the classic Nirvana t-shirt became popular amongst teens and young adults fairly recently, I saw several people wearing them. You'd hope they knew that it was a band, but possibly not...

I'm not a huge fan of Pratchett but I love Soul Music because of all the music references. Is that the same for you? Little Women was one of my mum's favourites so she gave me her old copies of that and Good Wives. I identified with Jo so much! I was lucky enough to visit the Alcott property on my last trip to Boston, it was amazing :)

Sorry about Mouse Or Rat, I enjoyed it a lot :) And what's the question about reading while *driving*?That's insane, instant car crash *shakes head*. I can't read and walk but apparently mum did it all the time when younger, would read while walking to school (small village without much traffic but i think I'd just fall over my own feet if I tried.. *g*)

It was an interesting idea, I did enjoy the theory behind it!

I don't understand the reading while driving question, it's bizarre. I saw an older woman reading while walking this morning as I was driving to work. I think I'd fall off the kerb or walk into someone or something if I tried it.

that's alright then :)

Its an American survey so presumably its a bit safer to do so on long straight journeys through swathes of Middle America, deserts and stuff, wouldn't want to try it in NYC mind! Yes, no clue how anyone can do it. I did recite poetry in my head or memorise Russian vocab on the walk from our hall of residence into town when I was at Uni, but that only involved the odd glance at the paper it was written on to double check a word or two, rest of my attention was firmly on the world around me.

That's true, with cruise control and very long straight roads, you could probably get away with reading. I suppose reading while walking isn't much different from people who are glued to their phones while walking.
