It's that time again

Oct 25, 2019 16:55

It's only a week until the start of NaNoWriMo 2019. I really want to get back into writing regularly because I've not had the time or the energy for it for a while now. I certainly don't have the time or the energy to do 50,000 words in a month but I would still like to take part in NaNo somehow. I'm considering just seeing if I can write a ( Read more... )

I use my laptop for writing, but I do use pen and paper from time to time.

I used to only use pen and paper but I always found that my hand couldn't keep up with my brain!

Ooh, I do hope you can get back into writing. How about aiming for a novella, various sites suggests thats around 20000..

I think I'd be better off sticking to a much lower figure. It's already going to be a struggle so I don't want to set a target that's bound to fail.

I'm not participating in NaNo, but I do write when I can. I'm a dinosaur, so I use pen and paper. I seem to need that slower speed. I also find it easier to stare at a blank piece of paper than a blank computer screen. Another thing that I like about writing with pen and paper is that you can retrieve something you thought you didn't want. It's too easy to delete things on Word. I do use Word to type things up. Word is also part of my revision process.

I used to use pen and paper, but I found that I couldn't write fast enough to keep up with my brain. I'm a pretty fast typer so it's easy for me to just let the words flow that way. I rarely delete any writing files in case there was something there that I might want later.

I just send you a friend request! I'm spilling_ink.

Yesssss you're going to have a great time! The first time I did nano, I didn't expect to hit 50k nor was I aiming for it, but I had a great time regardless. I think it'll be fun for you to join everyone. Plus, the forums are so great because you connect with other writers.

I use my computer and the program Dabble, and I use my tablet and transfer everything into Dabble. Since Dabble doesn't have an app yet, I just type up what I'm writing in the notes app and then type it up into Dabble when I'm at the computer. I used to just use Microsoft Word.

I added you back! :)

I haven't heard of Dabble. The bonus of a site is that you can access it everywhere, unlike Word which pretty much ties you to your computer.

I just sent you a buddy request. I'm Emily Wrayburn over there. I haven't participated since 2014 but I'm excited to give it another go. I'm being a rebel and working on a few different projects at once. There are two that are the main priority and together they may only be about 25k, but if I can get first drafts of both of those done, that's more important to me than hitting 50k.

I'm thinking this year I might just put everything in one big Google doc so I can access from anywhere and I'll use headings so I can navigate between the different stories as I feel inclined.

Generally, though, I use Scrivener for writing. I don't use it to its full capacity but I like being able to move scenes around and that it has views where you can see all your scenes in a list and that sort of thing.

I added you back!

I tried Scrivener once. It does have a lot of features and I wasn't using it to its full capacity either. I think it's got a bit too many features for my requirements so it's a bit overwhelming. I found https://apollopad.com/ which seems to be similar but online.
