TV 2017

Oct 05, 2017 18:42

As it's now October, I've been having a look to see when all the American programmes I watch are going to be back on TV. A few years ago, I barely watched any TV at all but now I have a whole roster of programmes to keep track of! The main ones that I've been looking out for are Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Scorpion and The Big Bang Theory. I was ( Read more... )

I still quite enjoy TBBT. I think they did a good job of growing from a geeky sitcom into a more adult (but still somewhat geeky) sitcom.

I wish there was more of the geekiness in it still, it's turned into just another sitcom about relationships and families :-/

With the occasional cameo from Stephen Hawking!

I think he's practically a recurring cast member at this point!

That's why I never watched Scorpion ... lack of time.

I only watch TV a few nights a week and I just watch one programme each night, I can't spend the entire night all week just watching TV! A lot of the series I mentioned are only 10 episodes rather than over 20 as most American ones are, so I should be able to get through them pretty quickly. Scorpion was a good programme though, I do hope it gets picked up by another broadcaster.

I can't think of a time when I wasn't obsessed with a television show. Even many years ago when I always watched things live I would be so excited when something was on and be frustrated when two things I watched were on at the same time. Now I'm just stockpiling shows on top of shows, to the point where I'm constantly behind.

Though I'm finding that there aren't a lot of shows this fall that interest me. Some of my shows are returning, yes, but those aren't that many. Most of my shows are during the summer, it seems.

I've watched the occasional programme in the past but television was never one of my major hobbies, I was happier reading or gaming instead. I've got a bit of a backlog of programmes to watch now myself mainly because I tend to do other things rather than watching them!

I suppose if there aren't many things on at the moment for you to watch, you can start working on some of the ones you're behind on! Silver lining, maybe?

That should all keep you nicely entertained - pity about the long wait for Agents of SHIELD though I really hate the season break thing as they often don't make much of announcement when the second half of the series starts back on UK tv and I end up missing a few before i notice, which is grr.

Not sure what's going on with Red Dwarf, its really lost its sparkle over the years. I've recorded one of the Electric Dreams, that looks really promising from what I've seen of the trailers so fingers crossed.

Its a pain Lucifer's still not on a channel you can get - and my tv magazine the last couple of weeks is mainly advertising all the new and exciting programmes coming on Netflix as well as Prime. Don't have Netflix and althouhg I have Prime I have to use the pc or the phone to watch which is seldom convenient.

That season break thing is incredibly annoying. It seems to be that a lot of programmes get taken off late November/early December for the holiday period and then don't come back on until mid-January. I suppose that's one of the downsides of having such long series, it doesn't tend to be a problem with ours because they're rarely over a dozen episodes! I know what you mean about the announcements, they're either very subtle or non-existent! Are you aware of geektown.co.uk? They keep track of what American programmes are on here and when, and they track those that are in two halves too.

It's a shame about Red Dwarf, it's definitely not as good as it used to be. I think it was struggling even before it had to move to Dave, I don't know if the split between Grant Naylor was part of that or if it was something else.

It's annoying when the TV magazines do that. I've found a few programmes that sounded interesting only to realise they were on Netflix. I don't know why those get included!

I'll check out geektown thanks, could be handy for sure, I hate missing stuffs :

I think they've run out of steam or ideas, maybe should just do xmas specials or something and make sure its all the really great stuff in one go.

I suppose its because half the decent stuff ends up there as theres more funding or something, at least the prime stuff ends up on tv eventually (though not necessarily the usefuol channels), not sure if netflix stuff would get bought.

It's quite a good site, I only found it recently.

I believe from what Robert Llewellyn said to someone else at Comic Con that there's only going to be one more series after this current one. I don't know how accurate that is though.

It's not exactly television though, is it? That's my thought, you can watch it any time so why does it need to be in a TV guide when it's not really scheduled.

The first episode of the new Red Dwarf is currently on UKTVPlay.com without ad-breaks (although that may just be because I have ad-block; most streaming sites make you turn it off, though!) I watched it yesterday.

It's... okay. I think it was going downhill before it moved to Dave, to be honest... It hasn't been the same since Rob Grant left... Grant/Naylor were a great double act, and it doesn't work as well with only one of them doing it, imo.

I agree, Grant Naylor were a vital part of the programme's success and it definitely affected things when Rob Grant left. I remember with the last few series before it went on hiatus, it seemed like they were more concerned with making it look amazing, so they had all these elaborate sets and locations and special effects but the scripts were lacking. I know there were several other fans at the time who had similar thoughts. There were some questionable decisions that really affected it and it's hard to watch it now, knowing how good it was!

Some of my favourite episodes are from the first couple of series; the sets were basic, but the focus was on character comedy, and that should always come first!

They certainly have all the best and most quotable lines! I only discovered the show during series III so I started watching from that point. I didn't see the first two until I got them on video! I think my favourite series are III and IV, they'd got more into their stride at that point but it didn't last long!
