The bonus with TV adaptions is that they have so much more time and they don't have to try and cram all the minutiae into two and a bit hours. There always seems to be something important that gets cut which changes how a character comes across or the overall situation.

Yes, exactly. I know that many don't like adaptations in fear of things being left out or that it'll mess things up, but while both movies and television adaptations have their pros and cons, with television there is more leeway when it comes to exploring characters and their arcs, something that isn't always expanded or (or oftentimes left out entirely) with film adaptations due to time restraints. I really like it when a series allows us to go more in depth with characters or arcs that even delve deeper than the source material, which is definitely a plus for me.

I think TV adaptations are starting to become more popular, it certainly seems like there's been quite a few in more recent years. The time aspect is such a major factor, it really makes so much of a difference when you can spend more time getting to know the characters or background stories. I know that The Night Manager was so well received that people were clamouring for another series even though there it was just a stand-alone book! I don't think that would have happened with a film, it needed to have more than 2 hours to really help you get invested in the characters. It wouldn't have been as powerful as a film.

Who dog-ears a book? That's a sacrilege ... no book lover would do that. (I hope!)

I know, it's such a terrible thing. I've found it happens a lot with library books, it seems that people don't care about books that they don't own which I think is completely backwards. They should care more about books that aren't theirs!
