The solitude of writing

Apr 25, 2017 19:34

I've been having a lot of fun writing on the 4thewords.com site which is lucky as the official Camp NaNoWriMo site seems to have been less engaging. One of the things I was looking forward to on the Camp NaNo site was the cabins. These are little writing groups of twenty people in a virtual cabin. You could choose to be randomly allocated a ( Read more... )

It certainly makes it entertaining! I like the community aspect of it too.

Grr on your group heading off to fb, not my ideal choice of a platform for such things as its tricky to follow conversations at any length :(

the battle thing sounds really clever though, what a fun idea, and seems to have captured folks' imagination, yay for encouraging writers and writing so successfully, glad you're enjoying it so much :)

They set up a private Facebook group because apparently it was easier to have conversations there :-/

It's so much fun, and it's ideal for keeping you writing because you get rewards for continuing a streak of meeting the daily target (444 words). The bonus is that the team behind the site are really nice people too. One user posted in the forum about a dream that featured a variation on one of the monsters. A few days later, that variation appeared as an actual monster to fight :)

Short, confused ones.. maybe not a group that's worth being involved with after all?

Oh that's very cool :)

They were wanting to share photos of their cups of tea and things like that so I think I was well out of it. Apparently someone set up a private cabin for people on the 4thewords site so maybe next time I'll see if I can get an invite there.

Isn't it nice? They seem very interested in the user's feedback, there's one of them who is often spotted responding in the forum, it's nice to know they're that on the ball.

is there a reason why you don't head over to fb with them?

it sounds like a lot of writing to do there

I stopped using Facebook about two years ago. I got fed up of posting stuff and getting no response.

Oh,i love the sound of 4thewords. Is the paid account the only way of joining (after the trial month?) They don't have a free basic account with ads or anything? It's tempting either way, though. Though my next big writing project is revision rather than writing, so I don't know...

That sucks about your cabin! I've had really quiet ones too in the couple of years I did Camp NaNo.

They only have the one sort of account, there's no ads on the site at all :-/

It was really annoying. It seemed to be so positive when it started off so I hoped there would be a decent level of support and interaction.

500 words in 10 minutes is just insane!!!! But the site sounds fun otherwise and by reading your post I began to wonder if I should sign up on it as well.

It's manageable if you don't bother too much about punctuation, capitals or fixing your typos as you go along! There's a free 30 day trial on the site, so you can always give it a try and see if you like it. They don't ask for any payment info for the trial either which is a bonus :)
