Oh my gosh, I know! I got all caught up in reading about it in the Guardian, and wow. As a side note though, I have to admit that I was kind of jealous that y'all can have an entire campaign cycle in less than two months!
That's because we vote for the party, not the person so it's much more efficient :P It does mean we are going to get it rammed down our throats something chronic over the next 7 weeks though. As a side note, I am impressed that you read the Guardian!
At least you'll have it over with quickly though, instead of having it drag on for years and years! But yeah, I can imagine that will be a tedious 7 weeks. I love the Guardian--there are slower periods at my job sometimes, so I look for good longer articles to fill time with then, and the Guardian has good ones and no paywall!
Most of our elections are over fairly quickly, we don't really go for the long drawn out ones.
Oh, if it's for reading at work, that does make it rather funnier that you choose the Guardian. Their website used to have a forum section called the Talk which was well-known for being the place where most UK bored office-workers spent their time. They also did regular meet-ups which was a big thing, particularly for those in London as it was hard to find friends there otherwise. I used to spend a lot of time on there, on a rather notorious thread.
Not in the slightest. I really don't think she'd call a snap election unless she knew she had a really good chance of winning. According to the latest opinion polls, the Tories have 48% of the vote and a really strong lead. So that'll make no difference at all and it's just a complete waste of time.
What's getting me is that she's like ANOTHER REFERENDUM IS NOT FEASIBLE but then she's like FUCK IT I FEEL LIKE A GENERAL ELECTION. I am hoping beyond all hope that Labour win, just to get the Tories out.
Oh yeah, she said from the start she would not have a general election before 2020, but oh look, she's changed her mind. Have you seen the latest opinion poll figures? The Tories are on 48% and Labour is on 24% :(
Seriously? Ouch. I was talking to a friend from England earlier and she was encouraging me to vote SNP in the GE (I'd said I already had for the local election), just to make sure that we get a decent number of seats, that way we can have more control over ourselves. It's such a mess >.
