Poll: The Festive Gift Conundrum

Dec 18, 2016 15:04

I had to nip out to Sainsbury's this morning for a couple of last minute bits that I needed. On the way out, there were several tables against the wall absolutely laden with presents. There were also a couple of people there from Guide Dogs for the Blind asking for donations. They had a spin the wheel game where a pound would get you the chance ( Read more... )

I considered that but it's not like it's a proper present. I mean, I paid for it!

It really was! There was a family with two young lads and I think they ended spending at least £4 so they could each have a go. I wasn't even sure if there was any difference in the segments on the wheel, they were all the same colour and decorated with Christmas themed stickers, so it might have been more for effect than there being any chance in it. As long as you donated at least a pound, you got a prize.

Must have taken a lot of organising but sounds like it did the trick... I do appreciate that kind of thing. The local scouts were round the other night fundraising - in a flatbed truck with ringing bells, people walking along with lights, lots of noise and cheer as they knocked on doors and folk came spilling out ot see what was happening, and of course were then in a position to give some money. MIght have been a Santa on the truck or similar, it was too dark to see and I'd just finished a late shower so wasn't going to go streaking into the street for a closer look *g*

Oh, the Rotary Club do that here. They come round every year with a flatbed trailer that has a sleigh with Father Christmas sat in it with a mic so he can shout out 'Merry Christmas' and talk to people. They have Christmas music playing loudly and lots of collectors going door to door for donations so it's very bright and lively. They actually came on Tuesday night! :)

Is there anything that can make you feel more like a kid at Christmas than being faced with a HUGE stack of presents and being told to pick one?

*claps hands* ooooooooooooh yes!! THE best feeling!!

There were so many of them as well. I think I just stood staring at this mound of presents for a little too long trying to work out which one I wanted!
