An arm and a leg and your first-born

It's just a month off my birthday now (hint hint :P) so I was talking to my sister recently about doing something for our upcoming birthdayness as hers is the following month. We're both big Harry Potter fans and both of us really really want to go to the WB Studio Tour so that seemed the obvious choice. I've been having a look at the train times ( Read more... )

No problem at all with the train/shuttle thing from Euston. (WHEN you are in Euston on time ... *cough*)

You can also take a bus directly - without the shuttle - from Victoria.

EDIT: And I don't think the train + shuttle from Euston was 1 1/2 hours - they just tell you to take that much time so you really, really are on time for your booked ticket.

I don't think I've ever had a train arrive in Euston on time. Which isn't a problem unless you're on a tight schedule. I didn't know about the bus from Victoria, although I'd have to cross London to get that.

The train to Watford varies depending on the time you catch it. It can take either 22 minutes or 50 minutes. At the time I'd want it, it'd be 50 minutes. I don't know how long the shuttle takes, I thought maybe 15-20 minutes and just added a bit extra for traffic.

I guess we had the 22 minutes train then. It didn't stop a lot really.

We had to get from Victoria to Euston by Tube and when we entered Victoria Station the whole upstairs was FULL of people, no chance to even get to the Tube. Still don't know what was wrong that day ... Thank goodness I kinda know my way around London!!! (Which means leave the station, take the bus to Westminster, take Tube from there!)

It's a bit of a difference though, isn't it?

I think that's just Victoria. I read recently that it's the second busiest train station in the country with something like a quarter of a million people using it every day. I've only been to that station a few times but it's been manic every time.

FYI you can use oyster to get to Watford from Euston , it's £6.40 single off peak (after 9.30am / not between 4pm and 7pm weekdays) and you don't need to book in advance! doesn't make too much difference but didn't want you to get ripped off getting to Watford if you do go!

That is good to know, I always forget that Oyster covers more than the Tube and buses! It would only save money on the way there though because the return journey would be between 4 and 7pm so that's annoying. But thanks for reminding me.

It's ridiculous, isn't it? It's just a huge expense in both time and money to get down to London from this end of the country. I don't think people in London realise that.

Supposedly if you book in advance, you get cheaper fares. I checked the fares for as far in advance as it's possible to book and those are the prices. I forgot to mention that.

ah well.. is it an option for you when it's a bit cheaper?

So full disclosure I had to Google what "£90" equals in US dollars because I can never remember how the British Pound breaks down with the US dollar. £1 = $1.45 in case you didn't know either. lol So your cheapest amount is like $130.53! That's craziness! I mean damn. Maybe someone will pay for you as a Birthday present?

I have no idea what the current exchange rate is so you're not alone there. But good for you for using the pound symbol! The cost of travel down to London is horrendous, it really is. I had to get train tickets with only a week's notice once and it cost me a fortune.

It would be nice if someone could treat me as a birthday present! I only get presents from my mother and my sister so unfortunately it's not likely.

I've got it down now though a dollar forty-five cents to every pound! :D

I feel you. Everything's getting crazy expensive these days to! :(

It's $1.45 at the moment, it might be different next week!

Prices are so weird, some stuff is way more expensive like books and video games while DVDs and CDs are super cheap. It makes no sense!
