When I posted my cartoon-style self portrait recently, it got such a good response that I decided to do another portrait in the same style (it's here if you missed it). I thought for all of a millisecond as to who I should pick to immortalise in a portrait and then spent a most enjoyable hour or so looking for a decent photo to use ( Read more... )

Yeah, it took a while, a lot longer than my self-portrait. There was quite a bit of work in this one, mainly because of his jacket. Did you watch the video so you could see it all being built up?

Yay, I love this video and the portrait! Saying again as requested, and cos I like how I said it yesterday: It really shows how much work and thought and time goes into a piece like that, and how much of a difference attention to detail makes. There are so many little bits and pieces that our eyes gloss over and take for granted, precisely because they're so well done, but when it's broken down and we have to observe more closely we can see just how intensive and remarkable it is to produce work like that. Very well done! :)

Ooo, Emma Watson next! Peez.

I knew you'd copy and paste, such a lazybum :P But yes, unless you see how something is made, you don't realise how long it takes or the amount of detail that's put into it. Like how there's over a dozen different pieces just to make up one of the press-studs and how the laces have 4 layers each to provide the right texture and shading.

I only had a quick look for a picture of her but I was struggling finding one where she looked more natural rather than overly made up and not completely washed out with lighting. You're welcome to see if you can find a good one. I did find this nice picture of Jennifer Lawrence though which I'm considering.

That's pretty amazing, fascinating to see how the layers and elements build up and how you achieve the skin shading, and do the eyes and stuff, wow, no wonder it takes a long time, thats a lot of work but such a great result ( ... )

I'm glad you found the video interesting! I think it's always interesting to see how a piece of art is built up and how all the little bits come together.

I haven't seen any of the Hunger Games films so I have no idea what she looks like in that. She was in the latest X-Men film and I've seen a few interviews of her. I liked how she's very down to earth, no airs and graces or pretence about her. I found this picture of her which I quite liked.

The problem I had finding decent pictures of Emma Watson was that most of them were either from photo shoots or red carpet shots where she was overly made up and her skin was completely washed out. They use such harsh lighting on them, it's ridiculous. The last photo is a bit too heavy on the shadows, it's hard to make out detail in that side of her face. The second picture is very nice but there's not much in the way of shading on her face at all and I'm concerned it might end up looking rather flat because of the cartoon style I use. Hmm...

Well I've not seen them either, was just going off what I'd seen on the google image search there :)

She's not attractive in the least, to my eyes, especially not in that pic, sorry!

I was thnking the shadows might be an issue.. and obviously I've no idea what would work best but hey, I tried :)
