Of Manchester and markets and meeting friends

On Friday I went off to Manchester to meet up with the fantabulous sullen_hearts and her mother and have a look round the Continental Christmas Markets. It's their 15th year which is quite amazing. I went to one of the early ones when it was just 2 markets and for several years in a row after that but hadn't been for ages until last year when I went with ( Read more... )

Yay, that sounds like so much fun! Is Harvester not tasty? Chiquitos sounds like a good choice though. :) The grater plates are v nifty! What does yours look like? And all those yummy foods omg. I'm so jealous.

You remember the Printworks, we went to see The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas there. It has stuff that's a bit out of the ordinary, so there's a Hard Rock Cafe, Waxy O'Connors, the Bierkeller, and Tiger Tiger which is 70s themed complete with roller girls and a flashing disco floor. Old Orleans was a restaurant with Deep South, Creole and Cajun food so it fitted really well. Harvester, in comparison, does pub food. So it's like... well, like any pub. It's not exciting or different in any way. It'd be like having an Irish themed pub in Dublin.

On the link for the grater plates, mine looks like the first one on the left in the third row. The yellow one with little chilli peppers round the edge.

Well, it's properly called Harvester Salad and Grill. So it's about as thrilling as salad.

It was really hard to decide which one to get, there was so much choice and some of them were really nice!

I imagine it would have been more exhausting if we'd had to fight our way through mad crowds as well. Although you probably did plenty of that in the Arndale. What time did you finally leave?

We went back to the station about 4.30 and managed to get seats on the 4.59 train, it left late but it wasn't too bad actually.

I got a train just about half 4 but there were still delays when I had to change trains. It should have got in at 5.30 but it was just after 6 and then I had a 15 minute walk from the station too. I think that last walk knackered me more than all the walking round Manchester!

Me too! It helped so much that it wasn't busy, although I was very surprised by how not-busy it was!
