How tall will my sunflower grow?

Jul 23, 2012 16:02

I have a sunflower in the garden! Actually, I have three: one of which is struggling rather while the other two are doing much better, and one of those is doing the best of the lot. I think it's been enjoying the rain we've had lately, it's visibly shot up after each downpour so I hope it does just as well now the sun has come out ( Read more... )

Oh my! That is a v healthy looking sunflower! Aw, your poor aunt. I'd be jealous too. ;)

Ooo, a contest! *ponders* I'll guess ... 3m. Does the prize go to whoever's closest, or whoever's closest without going over?

Also your icon is the cutest thing ever.

My aunt doesn't really have the time for gardening though so it's not really a surprise that hers haven't done so well. She has another hobby that's more important.

3m?! That's... that's really tall. That's over twice as tall as it is now! The prize will depend on a) what the final height is, b) what the guesses are and 3) if anyone else joins in!

Ah, that does make sense. How is your uncle doing these days?

It's growing so fast that I figured it might well double in size! There's still quite a bit of summer left. *nodnod* Can I adjust my guess to 250cm, exactly twice what it is now?

(Psst - you wrote cyn_ful's guess as 183m. Even I think that's a bit too much to hope for. ;) )

He seems to be doing fine. He has a bit of limp when walking but that's about it really.

Oh, seeing as it's you, I'll let you change your guess. Good job I like you :P

Oh that is awesome! I'm impressed. Ours died this year, granted we needed to add water to them.

I shall add in 6 ft./1.83m Yeah, just ran and did the conversion for myself. *grins*

Oh, I've not had any problems with watering mine, considering we've just had the wettest three months on record! But watering does help *nods*

Hehe, I'm glad for the conversion, my ruler only has centimetres on it!

We are in a massive drought. I don't think it has ended yet, even though we have just had an entire week of rain.

I figured I better do the conversion. My first guess is already shorter than what you had! It was a handy dandy tool too!

Yeah, we've just had a serious drought here, mostly in the South East, and it took a couple of weeks of solid rain to get the reservoirs back up to an acceptable level. Mind you, two years ago there was a drought where I live which resulted in a hosepipe ban, and that only ended after we had an entire summer of non-stop rain.

Google is good at conversions, you know. You just type in '6ft in cm' into the search box and it'll tell you straight away.

228cm exactly *nods*

I think the one I grew when I was about 5 was in the 180-200cm region, but that was a long time ago... Also sun, I totally think I know what that is! It's STILL raining here, no danger of drought at all.

It was sunny on and off today but the best bit was that it wasn't cold. Having said that, the overnight forecast says it's going to be 17°C at 5am in the morning so it's going to be a muggy night *sigh*

That translates to 213cm, not far off what sullen_hearts has guessed. Ooh, that might be exciting!
