I can't believe it's Friday night already. Where has the week gone? I don't think it helps that apart from today, the whole week has been taken up with the funeral. Monday was taken up with packing and getting stuff ready, Tuesday was the journey down, Wednesday was the funeral and the journey back and then Thursday was spent doing as little as ( Read more... )

That does sound like a v tiring week. That's so frustrating about the missing ticket. :( I'd be furious with myself too if it were me but it could happen to anyone really so you shouldn't beat yourself up for it. I'm glad the journey went well though! It sounds like otherwise the trip was quite nice. The service does sound lovely and my god that is a HUGE family. So amusing about your auntie B going on about how much you've changed. ;) I'm glad you got the chance to spend a decent amount of time with them and catch up before having to leave, especially with not having been there in about 15 years! That sounds like a really nice experience for you all. :)

I'm glad you had a quiet Thursday after all that but I'm not surprised you're still exhausted. Roll on lazy weekend!

That is a beautiful photo of Battersea Power Station and the light is so, so good. It's not easy to capture such a good shot at 125mph through a train window so yay for you!

It could well happen to anyone but it shouldn't have happened to me! When you print the tickets out, it says how many you're getting and I should have made sure then and there that I had them all.

It's ridiculously HUGE. Nannie only had two children, but my aunt has four, and one of those now has three children. I'd say most of the family seem to have between 2 and 4 children so it just gets bigger and bigger and bigger. There always seems to be some new relative that appears at each meeting as well, and I'm not talking about a newborn one!

I didn't take that photo at 125mph! That was taken on the Southern line on the way into London. It's the Virgin trains that come out of London going North that do the silly speeds. I love how the dark clouds enhance the industrial-ness of the picture, if that makes sense. It looks all dark and gloomy but also rather intense. Oh, and it was taken with my phone too, just to make it even more impressive.

Goodness, that is ridiculous. I thought my extended family was big with my gran being one of four! One of her nieces had six and most of them now have kids, but still nothing like your Nannie's family. My grandpa Mike was one of eight but I still know almost nothing about his family, but maybe if I connect with more cousins on that side (I found exactly one connection so far, a niece of his and her three children) I'll wind up with a million billion cousins too. :P

Ohh, that does make it a bit easier then. :P But even so! It is a v impressive photo and all the more so given that you took it with your phone. It definitely makes sense about the industrial-ness being enhanced. It is more intense that way. And even though you weren't going 125mph, I'm so impressed with how crisp and clear it looks, especially being taken with a phone! I don't have very steady hands so I often have a hard time getting good clear shots like that, never mind from a moving train. So v much yay for you. :)

Well, there was a table to lean on which probably helped with the stability. My sister took photos too but she was at the other side of the table and I don't think hers came out quite like mine, even though she was using a proper camera.

Well those fast ticket machines are a bit ridiculous to try and stick your hand in, bit badly designed really. But another new ticket is a bit offputting and expensive.

That is a pretty atmospheric photo, good shot, my train pics usually end up with window reflections or something blurry in the corner.

I don't think it helped that the tickets I got made no sense at all. There were 4 different train journeys - two there and two back - and we had seat reservations on the London-Lancashire/Lancashire-London section of the journey. Despite this, we had three seat reservations printed out; one was for the London-Sussex journey but the seat numbers were all just XXX's. I have no idea a) why we got a reservation card for seats that weren't reserved and b) why we only got one when there were two journeys between London and Sussex.

If you look closely, you can see the carriage lights in the top left corner and I think there's the reflection of something on the table in the bottom left. They're just not immediately noticeable :)

Hm, I think I've had that before, but you're right that it's nonsense - waste of paper and confusion for passengers.
