Manchester! Part the Third

Aug 31, 2011 20:04

Continued from yesterdayMonday morning found me debating whether or not to see some of the bands on the Main Stage later on that evening. There were some 80s bands performing (Toyah, Hazell Dean and Bucks Fizz) and although I wasn't particularly bothered about them, I felt like I should make the most of my wristband and they were the only ones I ( Read more... )

I would have loved to have been at the vigil, it sounds so lovely. Great hearing about your weekend, save for the missing toilet paper :0

It was really amazing, I'm glad I extended my stay so I was able to go to it.

Oh, and guess what? I ran out of toilet paper on Monday afternoon of all times so I had to go out and buy some more. It was really annoying. If I'd not had the upset tummy Saturday morning, I probably would have had enough. So then I had to find room to pack two toilet rolls. Good job they squash but grr.

Well, now you have 2 extra rolls!

Awesome, I saw JB on the Telegraph website doing his doughnut - bit rubbish. But cool for getting freebies, especially of bits of genuine F1 car.

Sounds like you had a good weekend though, esp f you get to do some more trans support.

I bet the Telegraph site didn't show where he stalled the car not long after he'd gone out for the second time and had to cut it short? I thought that was very funny. The piece of car is like 1cm² and is all sealed in a package like the kind you get action figures in, presumably in order to stop it escaping and getting lost.

HAHAHAHA totally not, but then you're not supposed to do tricks in an F1 car, and it didn't really look like he was doing circles. Much less cool than when I've seen the touring cars (which are essentially normal cars) do it.

Hmm, it's also probably last year's or bits that fell/broke off.

So much fun! I was v impressed by your F1 limited edition lanyard and car bit. The vigil sounds amazing and so powerful. I wish I could've been there but I'm so glad you got to go and experience that, especially with it being the 21st birthday and all. It does sound like the money they spent on fireworks might have been better spent elsewhere, I agree. Although I'm sure it was v cool to see. :)

I don't blame you one bit for avoiding Oxford Court if you stay in Manchester again. I wouldn't stay there again either after the experience you had! And I don't blame you for not staying in Manchester over Pride again but I'm glad you did it this time. It seems like the sort of thing that even if you never do it again, it's good to know you did it once. And it does sound like it was mostly a v nice time so yay for that. :)

It could have been that the fireworks were purchased at cost price which made them much cheaper or they were donated by someone. It just doesn't look very good when they're making a huge deal at having raised nearly £1 million when they then have 10 thunderous minutes of fireworks.

The annoying bit was that the place I stayed last time was also student accommodation but it was so much better. I got breakfast provided and it even had a kettle in the room. The kettle in the shared kitchen at Oxford Court was broken, the connector in the base had come off, but it had been fixed by one of the students by folding up a piece of foil and sellotaping it in place so when the kettle started boiling, you had to hold it down to keep the connection.

*nodnod* Yeah, agreed. If the fireworks were donated they should have mentioned that somewhere, but even if they just bought them at cost, it doesn't give the best impression.

Oh god, how ridiculous. At least it sort of worked but really, people, just get a new kettle. I feel bad for the students who have to spend the better part of a year putting up with that. It's so annoying that you have to choose between a working kettle (among other things) and internets though. I hope by next year the other place has internets so if you did want to stay again at some point, you wouldn't have to go looking for something else. Grrr.

On the first night there, when I got back from Lights Camera (Trans) Action, I went into the kitchen to make a hot chocolate before bed and there was a bloke in there making some food. He was rather chatty and said that he was from Saudi Arabia and a student there, studying English. He asked me what I thought of the place and said himself that it was rubbish. I mean seriously, how must it look to a foreign student like that? I felt rather embarrassed.

Busy weekend for sure, your poor feet - not impressed by the accomodation for sure, sheesh! I'm not an F1 fan but do have a soft spot for Jenson, can imagine the growl from that engine is amazing, yay being a VIP too :)

The accommodation was appalling, I was completely amazed as the student accommodation I'd stayed in last time was fine. I wanted to stay in that same place again but it didn't have internet and by the time I'd made my mind up, it was full.

Being a VIP was good to be able to see Jenson Button close up but I think it was better to see the car actually out on the street rather than on the screen.
