Hee, I am still so amused by your username. You are very very Slytherin so it fits in its way, although you're more of a rock star than heavy metal. ;) I'm reasonably okay with being RookWizard cos it makes me sound like a clever chess-playing type of person (let's just ignore the Death Eater called Rookwood, shall we?), but yeah, not really sure how it helps security or child protection to not let people choose their own usernames. I s'pose because parents aren't having conversations with their kids about how you shouldn't use your actual name or your school name or your address or something as a username, especially younger kids - teens usually want a username that's a bit more clever or individual than GarySmith8 or 47MapleStreet. It seems like the biggest result will be not increased security but lots of emails being sent out reminding people of their usernames because everyone's going to forget them. Especially since they all have random numbers on the end
( ... )
I thought the Slytherin angle was the most appropriate one. And it's not like I'm adverse to some heavy metal.
I presume the rook part is from chess, that was my first thought anyway: It looks like most words are HP related although I can't work out the link with mine.
I slept fine last night. Yesterday's headache was from the weather I think, I have no idea why it's hanging on.
*nodnod* The chess connection was my first thought too. I think SkullMoonstone is just two things that might be used in magic. They are very wizard-hippie names though, aren't they? Some of them were so cringe-worthy although now I can't quite remember what they were. I'm glad we wound up with ones that weren't too terrible.
Oh good, I'm glad you slept okay. The story idea didn't keep you up too late then? :) I'd love to hear about it if you want to share. Feh to still having a headache though. I hope it shifts ASAP.
Mine's cooler than yours :P it's (something, maybe scarlet)draconis(some numbers). I think that sounds right, scarletdraconis. Then I've only seen it twice, and it's helpfully not in the confirm email.
It was the best of a bad show, but still pretty Slytherin.
I was equally surprised when that page popped up, I went back and forward again to see if different names appeared but no such luck.
That is pretty cool, although I despute the Slytherin-ness of a scarlet dragon :P
The names I got were pretty bad. My registation timed out while I was trying to pick a name and I hoped that would give me new and better options but it didn't. One of Michael's options was RiverSpell which was much nicer and rather reminescent of a different fandom...
I think we're all going to look like we've been named by the worst kind of magical hippy wizarding parents with our Super Speshul Unique Snowflakes names. OMG we're all a bunch of Mery Sues and Gary Stus!.
It made me think of the good old days reading H/D.
I sort of feel sorry for the poor people at Sony who had to come up with 1mill+ names for everyone. It's not surprising some are a bit rubbish. Riverspell would have been fun, and a touch crossyover. At least everyone's a bit rubbish together though, and I really hope all the other unspeshul folk who missed out on early entry have to choose crap names too.
I was assuming that they'd just made a huge database of suitable words and used some fancy algorithm to make up the names which is why they were all a bit weird. I would imagine that it'll be the same for all registrations when it's finally open to everyone, although as the Early Access accounts are to make sure it's all up and running properly, it'd make sense for there to be less personalisation available initially.
KnightAvis195 for me. Still no verification mail though so I'm not sure it went through properly. We'll see. It's not a big deal to me if it turns out I have to wait for the official opening.
That's a good name. The verification emails are only valid for 48 hours so if you've not had yours, you might be out of luck :( You checked the spam folder, right??
I did. No sign of it anywhere. Perhaps I made a mistake typing out my addy. Oh well, I'm really more a casual potter fan so if I have to wait I'll survive.
