After a month of waiting, I've finally got my invoice through from Massachusetts General Hospital for the impromptu visit I had there on November 4th. I was rather apprehensive when I opened it because I knew that American hospitals charge ridiculous amounts, especially for x-rays, and apparently they can also charge you for being transported by ( Read more... )

I'm also surprised it wasn't a lot more than that, but I'm so glad you had travel insurance. I hate the US health care system so much. It's a complete disgrace. *stabs it with rusty knives* I know every system has its flaws, but anyone who isn't in favour of universal health care is either an elitist arsehole or a pathetic fool. As you said, health care should be a basic human right.

I vote for getting the itemised bill. Then you can have lots of omg-ness like my mother talked about with the cortisone injection she had to have a while ago. That's annoying that it took all morning to sort it out, but at least it should be sorted now! I hope you hear from them soon so you can put it behind you. Are you able to rest your ankle more now? I don't want it to keep being sore sometimes. :(

Hee, I really hope they use Age of Empires as a teaching aid!

The itemised bill would be interesting certainly. I won't be able to call up for it though, so I'll have to see if they'll accept the request over e-mail.

What makes you think I'm able to rest my ankle more now? You mad fool you!

If they need it to be requested by phone, I could call and see if they'll send it out for me. They're sending it to your address anyway so hopefully they'd be okay with that.

'M not a mad fool! I make lots and lots of sense. *nodnodnod* You're sitting and going through stuffs, aren't you? You should be able to rest your ankle while you do that! Are you keeping it bandaged or in the air cast or anything, if it's not being allowed to rest enough?

You could try and call them if you like. I've not had chance to e-mail them yet.

Well, mostly sitting going through stuff but with all the CDs I've been doing lately, it's been a lot of getting up and down and standing on chairs. I've not been wearing the aircast, I've been using a sports support instead.

Bloody hell.. and i too would love to know what the .17 is for.. No wonder so many of my US friends get to do fun stuff like choose between rent or medical bills, or medicine for insignificant little conditions like epilepsy or diabetes vs feeding the kids..

Seriously. No one should have to decide whether to pay for urgent medical attention or to buy food.

Don't I have to be an American or Austrian or Super Sekrit Muslim for that?

Our medical system is ridiculous! Not only do they charge for those things, they inflate the prices astronomically!
