They're generally web buttons; that style was first made by a site called antipixel, or at least first brought to attention by it.

I did find a generator type thing similar to the one in that first link but it doesn't put in logos or images like the example buttons in the sidebar there. At least I have a better idea of what terms to search for now though so thanks for that.

I've always made them with Photoshop or similar. Just take the W3C one as a template and rip it up... :)
