I have completely finished all of my unpacking! My case has gone back up in the attic so that's all of that all sorted. Next job will be to sort out all my photos and do a photo post. That will be fun because I took nearly 400 photos - I don't know what stuff I've found to take pictures of after this length of time (apart from the boyfriend ( Read more... )

Yay for being all unpacked! I haven't sorted my pictures at all yet. More to do! I don't envy you having to sort through 400. I could help you white-balance and rotate them if you want!

I'd love to see Germany with you someday. I want to find out where my grandfather's family was from before I go, though, so I can go there and have a look round and maybe try to find out about earlier generations.

As much as I'd love to offload all that onto you, I need to have the control over my pictures :-/

I don't imagine we'll be going to Germany any time soon, so you have time to find out that information.

It's hard to believe it's 20 years since my year 7 teacher pulled us out of class to see the wall come down.

I've probably asked before, but where in Germany were you?

I can't even remember where I was when I heard about it which is very odd.

We moved round a bit, but mostly in the Nordrhein-Westfalen area. We were in Unna-Massen initially for a long time and then finally ended up in Dortmund for a few years. That's the place we stayed longest so it's the one I remember best and the one I feel the most connection too.

I can't believe it's been 20 years either! I remember watching it on TV. I'm sure it must have been so different because...
1. You lived there.
2. It happened in Europe, where you are. Most Americans seem to think if it's not touching our borders, it doesn't concern us (sometimes even if it is touching our borders we don't care, well unless they start crossing our borders, then we care).

The UK might be part of Europe but it's mostly in name only. I don't think the majority of people here really bother about what happens in the rest of Europe unless it directly affects us and usually, very little of it does. There's a good percentage of the population here who want to leave Europe as it is. Don't forget, we're an island off the coast, so I think sometimes it makes us feel separate.
