Coronation

May 04, 2023 14:52

It's not long now until the Coronation of King Charles III - which is still an incredibly strange thing to write. It feels very weird that there's a big Royal event happening and the Queen won't be involved. The BBC has a great article giving a complete run-down of the entire day with all the timings. There has been much made of the fact that ( Read more... )

I'll probably watch some of it ... but I'm not sure I'll stay in front of the TV for hours.

I've read somewhere that they're only going to use the State Coach for a short way as it's so ... uhm ... uncomfortable.

The Gold State Coach is notoriously uncomfortable. The Diamond Jubilee State Coach (built in 2012) is being used to take Charles and Camilla from the Palace to the Abbey. It has air conditioning and hydraulic suspension so it's much more comfortable. However, the Gold State Coach is being used for the return journey from the Abbey to the Palace. It's been used in every coronation since 1831, so it would have to be included somewhere!

Thanks for the link with the schedule. I plan to watch the whole Coronation coverage (as provided by the CBC), though I may not be watching it live. I'm not sure if I'm willing to get up at 4:00 am, though part of me feels like I should to get the live experience. Maybe I'll set my alarm clock and see what my body says. *g*

I hope you enjoy all the Coronation coverage. I'm looking forward to it. :-)

4am is possibly a bit much! You could possibly miss some of the earlier part of the ceremony.  It's unfortunate that there isn't a more detailed timetable, so you'd know what would be a better time to see the actual crowing.  I hope you enjoy it too!

I didn’t know of the coronation when I booked my tickets and I’m actually glad that I’m leaving today. One of my concerns was the festivities and such causing delays in traffic. Though now it seems it’s all low-key. But anyway, I’m all ready to go back home later today. I’ll watch rerun snippets on the news.

Actually I think I’ll actually land in time to watch it live on TV.

I don't know how you weren't aware, it was announced in early October last year. I wrote a post about it.

Planned maybe, but tickets weren't bought till afterwards, were they? Surely you checked for any public holidays or big events that were happening when you were intending to travel, it's just common sense.
