Biscuit hunt

I am on the hunt for biscuit (cookie) recipes! For some reason, it's not something I make often - I tend to stick to cakes of varying sizes. But I have a new Neverstick baking tray, which is a claim that I think needs to be thoroughly tested, and biscuits would be ideal ( Read more... )

Thanks for the link. I don't know what medium grained kosher salt is though, that's not something we have here. 1½ teaspoons of salt is a lot!

You can use whatever salt you have. For most chocolate chip cookie recipes I make I use a teaspoon. A kind of big thing among the US food bloggers is Morton brand vS Diamond Crystal brand kosher salt. Morton’s you want to use less

Well, neither are available here so that's not really an issue.

For something Australian and delicious, I recommend ANZAC biscuits.

I was hoping for a recipe for Anzac biscuits! They were briefly available in the supermarket and as I was already aware of their history, I was eager to try them. They are really nice. I had looked for a recipe, I think I found one on the Women's Weekly website, but I wasn't sure if it was a good one or not. I'll definitely be making those!

Yay! It's one of those things that has been made so widely that there probably as many recipe variations as there are people who make them. The Women's Weekly version should be pretty good, their recipe books were a staple in many homes for decades. I've still got a few that my mum had duplicates of, even though I hardly ever use recipe books anymore and just go straight for google.

With the history that the biscuit has, I can imagine that there's a lot of family specific recipes that have been passed down through the generations. That's one reason why I posted, I wanted to get those family-tested recipes, rather than just looking online for something. I might try the Women's Weekly one because it has grams listed and that's the measurement I use, we don't use cups in the UK. My mum has an old Women's Weekly cookbook which does have some interesting recipes in it. I've used it occasionally but generally I use an old Homepride one that belonged to my grandma. I think it's from the 1920s.

So I just tried commenting on here and got a message saying that according to this journal's settings, my comment was marked as spam! Not sure if it was because of the link I included... let me know if you can see it or not, and I can try it again!

It's very odd that yours got marked as spam when the other comment with a link didn't. I got the notification about the comment and was able to unspam it, so it's all good.
