I want to set up a paypal account and have no idea how to do so. That is to say I have my account, but I don't understand how to send in the money. Do I have to go to my bank and ask for a transfer or do I have to use a credit card or what?

Do you want to use Paypal to buy things? Or do you want to sell stuff and have people pay you for it? Is it for eBay

In regards to getting funds INTO your account, you either have to set up the bank account connection (which may take a week or so, and then another week for the money to transfer) or you could get a friend to transfer money into your account (say, you give them $50 cash and then they transfer money to you). However, if you are in a hurry, you would need to find someone who already has money in their Paypal account, otherwise they'd have to do a bank transfer to themselves or to you and that will still take 4 business days. Sure, they can pay you with a credit card, however you would have to upgrade to a Premiere account and then Paypal will charge you 4% of the money you transfer in fees. It's SO FREAKIN' COMPLICATED!!!

Evidently the only "instant" transfer of funds using Paypal can occur from a Paypal Balance or through a credit/debit card transaction. Anythin involving bank transfers takes 4 business days.

Paypal is really way to complicated AND it takes even longer than four days for all this stuff for people from Europe - German accounts, for example, usually need 5-7 business days to process things!

Yes, you are right about foreign accounts taking longer to process. There are also a lot more limitations placed on foreign accounts.

All the stuff I was talking about in my replies was in reference to people located in the U.S. For example, a bank account transfer that I made from the U.S. to Japan took 5 business days.

For Paypal users who wish to use their Paypal account to buy things, note that Paypal will require you to register a credit card (which only takes a few minutes). WARNING: even if you have a Paypal balance (from someone sending you a payment), Paypal will NOT let you touch that money until you register a credit card. It's something else they've done to try to keep illegal transactions curtailed. :/

First thing you've got to do is to verify your paypal account - that is you've got to add a bank and verify the information - it has to do with your status. This usually takes several days. If you've already done it, everything else depends on what country you set up your account in. For example, if you have a french account, then I'm pretty sure you cannot withdraw money from your bank to paypal - somebody tried it recenty to pay me and it didn't work. With my German account I just send a normal Überweisung from my bank to paypal. Anyway. So it depends on whether you have a French, Swiss, German, whatever verified account. The other way is to pay with credit card, no idea how it's done, because I don't use it - but beware! Many paypal users do NOT have an account with which they can accept credit card payments - you absolutely must ask about it first!

ok, so I am in Paris at the moment and my bank account is in Switzerland. Can I just phone them or do I have to go back to Switzerland and see them in person???

Also findest du, dass es sicherer ist mit paypal zu zahlen oder mit kreditkarte? Ich verstehe nicht, wieso wir unser konto mit einer kreditkarte best¨tigen müssen. Ich dachte, man müsse gar nichts mit der Karte unternehmen!!!

Hast du auch ein anderes Konto nur für Paypal??? MANN IST DAS KOMPLIZIERT!!!!!

Sonst geht es mir eher gut. Die Schule ist phantastisch und ich amüsiere mich gut hier. :D Mir fehlt aber die Natur da, hier siehst du gar nichts ausser beton und hundekacke. XD Und dir, wie gehts denn so???? :)

Aaaalso. Nein, ich hab kein extra Bank-Konto für paypal, weil so viel Geld hab ich eh nicht und es wäre mir auch viel zu umständlich
