Last night I went and saw 13 innings of baseball, which ended in an Astros win thanks to an extremely questionable call in the 9th that allowed us to tie it up and then drag it out for 4 excruciating innings. According to the 2004 Nov 29 China Daily, Xu Jun, Wal-Mart China's director of external affairs, said that "If Wal-Mart were an individual economy, it would rank as China's eighth-biggest trading partner, ahead of Russia, Australia and Canada." I'm pretty sure it does import more into the US than any other company, although I don't have a source for that. Ironically, China's recent economic policy has been pure mercantilism.

1) All economic systems are supposedly for the good of the people. Capitalism and mercantilism have fought, but they're very close to each other, and more distant from Communism or Socialism. China's not really that Communist. I think the best comparison is that the Communist government was like a tree, and organized crime and corruption were like vines, and now the tree is dead and rotting but hasn't collapsed yet, and the vines are flourishing.

2) However, I just meant it was ironic that the West has abandoned mercantilism, and often sneers at those silly 18th century Brits who used it, whereas now China has risen to power through mercantilism.
