That makes a lot of sense. Oddly enough, the OSR is exactly a Renaissance, because it re-imagines the past in light of the contemporary, just like the Italian Renaissance. Of course, as you point out, that's not what they mean when they say it's a Renaissance.

My knowledge of the renaissance is limited - i.e., reading the wikipedia entry significantly boosts it - so that's not something I had thought of. But yes, it sure sounds like you're right.

I have always preferred the older style rulings vs rules and over the top play style. Newer editions have become to much like video games more rules and less choice I men come on where is the imagination? rules for every little thing don't do it for me.
