I saw all three original movies on tv the summer between fourth and fifth grade. I believe my reaction to Empire's big reveal was along the lines of "VADER IS A LYING LIAR WHO LIES!" and my dad just laughed at me.

I actually don't remember a time when I didn't know the plot of
Star Wars. That is how much of a nerd I am.

I hope Luxembourg is going awesomely for you!

It is going good (at 0730, nothing is 'awesome' quite yet). I still look out my apartment window and go 'wow'.

I will never, ever forget seeing Star Wars. To this day, I remember how my mind spun as I walked out of the theatre into the light of a sunny afternoon. That movie literally changed my life.

Which is probably why I react with such a visceral sense of betrayal every time I watch The Phantom Menace, but that's neither here nor there.

Also agreed on Firefly. A pity about the fandom, but of course, it's nothing new. Witnessing the vitriol between Star Wars and Star Trek fen back in the day turned me off organized fandom in general, and the interwebs has only served to make things worse.

I agree with you about "Serenity", but I did like Serenity quite a bit.

I also agree with you that for some reason, Browncoats are especially odd as fans go. Although...I'm just old enough to remember similar oddity from Trekkies. There's a certain obnoxious martyrdom that comes with being a devotee of a series cancelled prematurely....

I've never really looked at it that way before, but I think you may be right on that.

I'm not sure I agree that it deserved to be cancelled, but I am, by and large, content with the body of work we have, especially since several of the plot elements were wrapped up by the movie.

Could I have stood to see more? Yes, but I don't think it's a crime against humanity that we probably won't.
