it's just that there's so much to do

facehead2k and the rest of the Scarring Party put on a great show on Friday night, which is good. My own show is on Thursday and I'm starting to get a sore throat, which is not so good. My strategy until then is to pound Throat Coat and orange juice, talk as little as possible, go to bed early tonight, and hope that the plague has the good sense to hold ( Read more... )

My advice for colds is to eat raw garlic. It sounds awful. It tastes awful, too. But if you chase it with milk and chew the garlic up fast, it’s not that bad as far as the stinging. And it kicks colds’ asses.

Also, I like the song. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to one of your songs since macaco played me one what must be a couple years back now. It’s sort of been one of the, “Oh, she’s posted a new song. I should listen!” intentions, but then I get distracted by homework or something.

Also, a musical question: is there a point at which you stop really disliking your singing voice? I just know that right now, I can’t stand to listen to recordings of myself singing, which makes editing or adding tracks particularly difficult … is it just one of those things where you grin and bear it and make yourself listen, or is it a unique problem of my own? :)

I used to find it very difficult to listen to my voice recorded as well, whether I was speaking or singing. You want to know what changed it? Learning to record and produce. The songs that I record average about 10-12 hours of labor apiece to complete, from original conception to finished product, and during that time you can bet that I listen to the song (and by extension, myself singing) dozens if not hundreds of times while I'm tracking, tweaking, and mixing. Any lingering discomfort that I might have had about my own voice disappeared as if it had never existed a few months into the time that I began to take home recording seriously - because let's face it, if I was going to get any work done, I had to get over having any issue with how I sounded.

This is not to say that I'm not still critical of my voice - if anything, home recording has made me more critical and conscious of myself than I used to be. There's always the temptation to do "just one more take" because you catch the bum note or the mucked-up chord and want to ( ... )

This may quite possibly be one of my favorite things you're written. It may have even choked me up a bit. Love you and can't wait to see you and hear you play on Thursday!

I'm glad you liked it so much. I won't be playing it on Thursday (too long, too new) but it's probably going to go on the setlist for January. See you in a few days. Bring friends. (c:

Doors at 7 p.m. and I go on around 8:15 p.m.

How goes the situation with the car crunkage?

haven't completely heard yet, but it's not that promising.

I believe I will be there, though it might not be 7:00. My weekly meeting at work has been moved to 6:15 on Thursdays now, so depending on how long it goes each week I may be later than 7:00. You guys'll have to eat without me I guess and I'll arrive when I get there.

Oh, I'm not making dinner on Thursday and we're going to have to get food individually - I have to get there early for soundcheck so I'm not going to have time to cook or meet up with others.

Thanks for the good wishes! The music for this song came out very, very differently from how I envisioned it - faster, major, crazy modulating through like 8 different keys. I keep imagining a string part to go along with it, but that will have to wait until I learn to play the violin and/or cello, I guess.
