Life was quiet for a while but now it's starting to get crazy again. Midterms are coming up at school and I've already got a big stack of compositions and tests from other classes to grade. I'll keep up with it though. I'm also being kept busy because the university I work for is giving me more responsibilities like facilitating a Spanish ( Read more... )

Funny you should mention Stuart Davis in your post today, it makes the comment I was going to leave you just a little less random. :) I was listening to Savoring Samsara on my way to class today and was hoping you'd be able to give me some recommendations on what other Stuart Davis I should listen to. I'm sure this shouldn't be a difficult question for you to respond to at all. :)

The album entitled Stuart Davis is by far his best. It has "Savoring Samsara" on it along with many of his other best songs. If you are going to buy/download any of his stuff that is where you want to start. After that you will want to follow up with 16 Nudes and/or The Late Stuart Davis to get a sense of what his live shows are like. I like the songs on TLSD more, but 16 Nudes is a better showcase of the twisted sense of humor that is a major part of his work. I am also a fan of Kid Mystic, which is one of his earlier works and is a concept album about spirituality.

If you like I can burn you a CD with all of the stuff of his that I have and mail it to you, if you give me an address. You just have to promise to support him by going to a show sometime if I do. (c:

'kay, I'll try to send it off early next week. I am also going to a Dresden Dolls show at First Avenue later in October - you interested? Tickets should still be available if you are.

The next Stu show is December 26 in Minneapolis. Not ideal timing, but I may try to make it back for it depending upon what family obligations are like. I'll keep you posted.
