Well, it does say the "first batch", and there are only 4 so far. When they get around 20 or 30, the numbers should be high enough to wonder about demographics.
After all, do we start wondering about racial mix now? Or how about sexual orientation (oh, wait, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" nonsense)? Or some other grouping?

Hmmm.... I wonder if maybe a teeny tiny reason for this is to counter the publicity of the protest on America's Army by the Professor who was naming all those who had died. I'm not talking about a hugh thing, just maybe it was at the back of someone's mind when coming up with the idea.
Still, it's an interesting idea. The troops I support, the war I don't. But it is an interesting idea to give real faces to characters. From the sounds of it, they aren't playable characters? Merely NPCs based on real people that share their stories? And since they probably don't interfere with the game as many say the protest does, I doubt many, if any, will complain. At least, not the players anyway. How many will be drawn to the info? Probably the same amount as those drawn to the protestor. Actually, probably a few more will be drawn to the Heroes since they don't interfere with gameplay. The subtle touch in this case may win more recruits than support for the protest.

Then, too, are the action figures. I've seen plenty of collectible action figures. Now there are specific soliders. One has to wonder if this amounts to "merchandising the war". Probably not. Still...
However, the biggest worry I have is if they come out with a "Real Heroes" collectible card game. That would be a bit much. Collectible cards (like baseball cards), might be ok. But a game version might be a bit much.

I wish they would take the time and create a virtual monument for the dead soldiers in these last 2 "wars" of coarse they tend to ignore that fact of reality....
You know.. I sorta hope those who try to ban video games, get things like this thrown in their face. They want to get rid of video games, so they can't -possibly- get in the hands of minors? Obviously that means they don't support the soldiers fighting and dying in Iraq, for their freedom to complain about video games in the first place!
I have no idea shorxrore's explanation is, but I'm guessing it may have something to do with the current cost-to-effectiveness ratio of it (namely, hundreds of billions of dollars a year just to invade a country for no good reason. Yay!)

I don't know. I'd suspect that perhaps the demographic of America's Army players is heavily male
