About the old lady. terminator44 September 21 2006, 10:50:43 UTC
It figures that only the really old, senile people would support these bills. They don't understand that, according to the DOC (don't have time to provide a link), violent crime has been going DOWN. Just because society is different than when they were kids doesn't mean the world is going to hell in a handbasket. Besides, the bill won't even apply to violent movies, TV, and books. What does this old woman have to say about that?

"Now see here young whippersnapper... Hey! You kids get off my lawn!! Now, where was I?... Seriously, where was I? Who are you? I want some tapioca pudding..."

^^The sad effects of old age.

And yes, it's sad that the old people are afraid of change. But hey, what can you do?

Forgive me for being the cynic, but god help me this shit is getting old. You'd fiqure after 8 Fucking Tries, they'd give up and go home. THis is absurd, not to mention Asinine. It's a waste of time, money, and effort.

I hope when they reconvene the ESA takes them apart on this.

Well look at the bright side, Yukimura. It seems that some politicians are finally taking a hint and have done research about the other eight spectacular fai- I mean tries. Don't forget that some of the committee members did bring up the point that such a bill would a. never survive a court challenge and b. cost a buttload of money to defend. It's slow going and there will always be those blissfully ignorant meatheads in office who will try time and time again, but at least we're making some progress it seems.

Actually, the politicians aren't taking the hint - the AG made a point of making them aware of how undefensible this bill would be. Of course, the same thing happened in Louisiana and they passed it anyway.

How does Hogue defend his bill as somehow different when he mirrored the bill from Louisiana that's been struck down as unconstitutional??

one key difference is that the A.G. in Louisiana did not tell the legislature up front that there would be problems, at least not that I am aware.

A rep from the District Attorney's group DID tell the LA lawmakers on May 10th that he thought the bill could pass constitutional muster.

Boy was he wrong...

Everyone over there is obsessed over thes violent 'videos' They MUST be talking about video cassettes. Yeah, thats it. Otherwise if they were after violent video GAMES, thay would have said so.

Please, video cassettes may be obsolete. But they are not violent. Besides...I like them.

No, no, no...they were referring to Video Girls, like in the old anime Video Girl Ai. Can't say I blame them, that chick WAS pretty violent.

Apparently not. In fact, it seems like they don't do any research at all. Rep. Hogue continues to claim that all those other bills that failed in court were different from his bill, since his bill doesn't take violent games off the shelves, but merely restricts purchase. That is simply false, and if he'd actually taken the time to *read* those bills, and the court decisions against them, he'd know that.

Its all a bit daft tho, these are suposed to be educated men yet I (a shelf stacker ex-media student) seem to bee more clued up on the issue despite the fact it has nothing to do with me. My motto is "never trust a guy in a suit" and given the state of things over there it seems that holds true.

That the old lady wasn't in fact "He-who-must-not-be-named"???? His character is sooooo discredited now that I wouldn't put it past him "dressing up" to get some credibility. Certainly any little old lady would have more believable comments against video-game violence than him!

Or he could've just as well taken up cross-dressing... Then blame GTA for it!

Twisted and VERY disturbing. The thought of "He Who Shall Not Be Named" in drag will be giving me nightmares for weeks now.
