good stewards to children?blitzfitnessSeptember 3 2006, 15:09:00 UTC
So self regulating (in much the same way as movies) voluntarily, invoking a very eye appealing new rating advertising campaign with the talents of Penny Arcade, harboring a strong display of videogame content specifically made for children (such as looney tunes, barbie, the olson twins, etc.) despite low and mediocre returns on that investment, AND upholding our rights outlined by our own government for centuries isn't enough for the Henderson Dispatch guy?

"In criticizing Louisiana... ESA President Douglas Lowenstein invoked the name of (Hurricane Katrina)... we are outraged that many gaming companies seem to operate without a conscience, or - so arrogantly voiced by Lowenstein - even a sense of dignity
( ... )
"...we think the courts have been consistently wrong, or at least wrong-headed. Violence continues to erode the quality of life in the United States... at least the Motion Picture Association of America makes some attempt at self-policing... Games have a rating system, too, but it is a sham and unenforced." 1. Wrong headed? isthat even a word? 2. The MPAA and the ESRB are BOTH industry run systems. Honestly what is the MPAA doing that the ESRB isn't. I mean other than donating a shit-load of money to the goverment(?). 3.The ESRB is a set of guidelines. Not a means of enforcement. That is a job left to the parents.
Y'know, also being from North CArolina I want to email them but cannot find an address.
Click the header (The Daily Dispatch) and it will take you to the front page. On the left, choose Staff Directory. There's a list of email addresses there.
They do have, under Local News, a section for Letters and Opinions. So, it is possible to get your comment printed. But, I have my doubts if they'll care about opposing views. I didn't even see the name of the person who wrote the article that was menitoned here.
Unfortunately, the Henderson Dispatch like so many people seem to think that the MPAA ratings are legally enforced which is not the case. It is also unfortunate that I can't seem to locate the correct place to send a letter to the editor to correct their mistaken assumption.
