At the very least, the appearance is certainly interesting. (It's especially interesting to me since this is the former governor of my home state.) While I didn't think his time as governor was well spent, I do think that having a high-tech background like he has is important for a governmental position, especially with upcoming legislation and how technology is speedily progressing. While I'm not clear on Warner's stance on video game legislation right now, he seems willing to reach out to new and different venues to reach people, and I like that.

...so we're looking at the remote possibility of two Virginia candidates for 2008? If so, I may have to chalk one up for Warner instead of Allen - but that's yet to be seen.

after all thats happened to allen in the last month or so, theres no way he's getting the R nomination. he might not even get re-elected to the senate!

Very true... jessi_b September 2 2006, 15:35:41 UTC
I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen. Then again, no one in either party seems to have a strong candidate, to me. We'll see soon enough, I think.

I like Warner, I am hoping he wins out the Democratic nomination. The party needs somebody like him who doesn't seem as entrenched as other candidates.

Newer and newer ideas for "games" and internet nightwng2000 September 1 2006, 14:59:39 UTC
People are starting to come up with good ideas for uses of MMOs. And with such as Second Life, ideas spread better. I mean, look at the war game (was it America's Army) that someone decided to make a sort of war protest on some time back.

Political messages, social messages, religious messages, community messages, and so on, the potential for people to use MMOs as a sounding board is growing.

Yeah, there are some hardcore gamers who will probably be annoyed. But, growth brings expansion, in ideas as well as imagination.

Ya, he went on Americas army servers and spammed the names of those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. He took up player slots and made it very hard to talk to your team until he got kicked by an Admin. Stupidest most ineffective protest i have ever seen. He could have spent his time doing other things that would have benefited his cause much more than repeating those names to people trying to play a game.

I never really saw his whole point in that. Most people who still play that game are very aware of the situation. Most of them can't do a damn thing about it either.

Coming up with ideas bhschenker September 1 2006, 15:18:01 UTC
We've been putting together many ideas on how to engage the gaming community and using various platforms in politics. We'd love to hear what everyone has to say on this. What ideas do you have? What would you like to see? What issues do you care about? Please let us know.

Everyone have a nice labor day weekend. I'm off to the Toronto Comiccon! Talk to everyone when I get back!
