Tivo alert? More like "Quack alert".terminator44July 30 2006, 15:40:43 UTC
For an orgainzation that touts parental responsibilty on its website, Dr. Walsh's orgainzation seems to like making decisions about what kids can and can't watch FOR the parents.
It's people like him parents get to be so lazy these days.

He's never indorced censorship or government regulation BUT he does seem to think that those violent media studies really prove that violent media is harmful to children despite the fact that the vast majority of those studies are extremely weak, inconsistant, incredibly flawed as well as very biased. At best all these studies show only a weak correlation and none of them show a direct link between violent video games and increased violent/aggressive behaviour, none of them have shown that violent video games have any more of an effect on kids then other forms of violent media, and none of them show that the supposed "harmful" effects caused by the violent video games are even that significant (i.e - the effects are usually incredibly small and would have no real world effect on people).

I think that's a bit of a stretch. The website seems to rate and inform similar to the way the ESRB does, except with actual reviews of games by parents. As to Walsh, I don't get the same impression from him as I do from the politicians and Voldemort. He's big on accurate ratings and people making informed buying decisions rather than bashing the industry as a whole. Let's see what he has to say on Monday.

You raised some good points, although I personally consider many of the reviews to be too harsh.
However, just because Walsh isn't as bad as the rest of his kind, that doesn't mean he's harmless. The organization unfairly lashes out at the ESRB with its annual report cards (wish I could find a link to the story about the most recent one). Plus, despite what he says on the site, he seems to have little concern in helping the ESRB do its job. Instead, the orgainzation seems to be determined to implement their own ratings system. I don't know about you, but I consider such behavior worthy of hazing.

Given what he has said about video games in the past, I seriously doubt it will be positive.
Ah, Walsh. Good man. Still remembering reading about him taking Jack down a peg... last year was it? Good Times.
Make sure to tell us what he said, and if anyone can get a video feed, youTube it. Us non-US people would also like to know what he has to say after all.

Remember folks, Dr. Walsh is a proven liar and a person who deceives, and I have proven this time and time again. Also, before you claim Dr. Walsh treats gamers with respect, remember that this is the guy who blamed the gamers when asked about the cannibalism nonsense (remember in the last video game report card, he claimed the gaming industry was promoting cannibalism, then when it was shown to be a lie, he blamed the gamers, claiming essentially that the gamers "tricked" him into believing that the gaming industry was promoting cannibalism). It was the last video game report card that forced the National PTA to distance themselves from Dr. Walsh and his group, and Dr. Walsh had nothing better to say except that there was a "misunderstanding" between the NIMF and the National PTA, without actually mentioning what exactly the PTA misunderstood. Liar liar

THANK YOU! That's what I'm talking about. While he isn't on the level of Jack Thompson (Yes, I said the name), Dr. Walsh has been nortorious for spreading misinformation and lies in an effort to discredit the game industry.

I'm incredibly suprised and quite happy I'm not the only one who thinks this guys a joke like every other person who attacks video games. Personaly, I think this whole "treating gamers with respect" crap that he always uses is a big lie. I can only guess he did it so he woulden't get thousands of e-mails from gamers challenging his comments about us, the industry, and video games in general. People can even bring up the time he told off Thompson like they love to do, but I saw that as nothing. Anybody can prove Thompson wrong, and if you've sent him any e-mails, you know thats a fact.
But hey, I will watch this Good Morning America segment tommorow. And since it will probably be mostly focused on video games, and he will most definantly attack them yet again with false claims, I'll be able to get a few good laughs out of it.

Oh, and don't forget the fact that before Walsh (and Yee) "alerted" the parents about Hot Coffee, there were only like a thousand downloads. Afterwards, somewhere around 1.2 million. For someone so concerned about the children seeing it, he sure helped promote the crap out of it to a million plus people who would have never heard of it otherwise.
