I find Johnson's comments about excessive lawsuits ironic.
http://www.johnsonforag.org/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26&Itemid=31

Quote: "I have also sponsored legislation to reduce frivolous and excessive lawsuits that drive up the cost of products and services for all consumers."

Comment: Too bad he is not concerned about the state wasting tax dollars fighting for unconstitutional legislation.

Quote: "I am leading a bipartisan review of the civil legal system to identify frivolous litigation and lawsuit abuse that increase insurance premiums and drive jobs out of Minnesota."

Comment: I would argue it's an abuse of the legal system to defend a law that is clearly unconstitutional under Eighth Circuit precedent.

Awareness thabor May 26 2006, 15:02:23 UTC

Normally I hate smear campaigns..

However, in these cases I absolutely wish we could sponsor some sort of awareness program to inform taxpayers of just how many of their taxdollars these idiots have wasted with their irresponsible legislation. Passing bad laws just to advance a few politicians career's shouldn't be encouraged as an advancement strategy. We have enough bad law on the books. We need politicans that care about their constituants, not ones that are just looking to pad their resume for their next job. Frankly the last thing we need is to give even more power to people who have already demonstrated an inability to use it properly.

We can spread awareness, we just have to get the word out.

Also I like the tee-shirts & pins that my wife made for Cafe-press. :)

We have to have a loud voice or games will become the pet target of politicians everywhere.

8th Circuit presedent has ruled these types of law as unconstitutional in St. Louis v. IDSA so goodbye Oklamoma law if the Gov. decides to pass it. Way to waste taxpayers money on obviously unconstitutional shit there Mr. Fred Morgan. It's too bad you won't have to pay the full legal bill yourself. I bet you wouldn't have made this legislation then, hey.

I guess Oklahoma under the 10th Circuit not the 8th. My bad. Oh well, the laws dead anyways if it's signed. The presedent in all the other Court Circuits is way too strong, just look at the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th Curcuit Courts.

I've lived in Oklahoma for about 4 years now, and if there is one thing I've learned about Oklahoma politics it is that Gov. Brad Henry has great skill at keeping issues that make noise in play. Especially if they make him look good ( ... )

Thanks for the insight. It is more than a little frightening when someone can simply manipulate the laws to silence opposing views.

It's a little off topic to ask but do you have any info about the witch trial I would be very interested in checking out any links.

Anyone surprised, really? monkeyincorner May 26 2006, 17:36:49 UTC
These pandering politicians will take the podium and tell the masses they acted to "protect the children" from the evil of videgames. Unlike taking on big oil companies or big pharma who have strong lobbies, the videogame industry is an easy and clean target to make someone's career.
