Parent's probably would suspect the PSP having NSFW pictures on it, but they know that they have no chance of actually finding them.

Is it really possible to hide pictures on a PSP? Really, all you have to do is select the Pictures tab and scroll through the thumbnails, and there's your porn. The only way to "sneak" it in would be to save the pictures somewhere other than the Pictures folder, then transfer them via USB, at which point the PSP is no different than a USB stick.

think about how many parents are going to walk into their childs room, say "porn check, hand over your PSP" and then know to check the pictures tab.

A friend of mine (who shall remain nameless to protect the not-so-innocent) hid some NSFW pictures on a seperate memory stick. Which was the same one he used to trade Dynasty Warriors generals with me. Bloops.

Kids these days with their interwebtrons and their free pr0n. Why can't they even spell it right!? It's Porn! Back in my day, after walking to school uphill both ways (or walking out front to my friends car), we had to actually obtain porn. Nowadays you just google, "I want me some girly pictures," and you've got more than you bargained for. Back in my day, you had to try and find a conveniant store that still sold Playboys, and pay the creepy guy out back 20 bucks to buy it for you. And you were happy with your softcore gentleman's magazine. Happy, daggnabbit! No, no, not good enough for you youngin's today - you've got to download "Debbie Does Dallas X," and transfer it to your soft-modded PSP, and bring it to school and show other kids! And to top it off, instead of just punching the kid you squealed in the gut, or giving him a wedgie, or putting him in a headlock - you've got assault the kid with your keys! Now I've been in a few schoolyard scrums in my day, but stabbing someone with your keys is just weak. Nothing like ( ... )

Damn straight! Kids these days have it so easy. In my day, we had to get porn the old fashioned way -- by hanging out with the kid who had HBO and staying up late to watch the T&A matinees.

Or watching scrambled porn. Turning the TV to channel 57 and hoping you could tune the box or wiggle the cable in the hopes of seeing a boob, maybe two, if you were a lucky lad.

It takes no skill now.

Making "harmful to minors" laws a felony is rediculous. At most it should be a misdominor (sp?) and at best they should be stricken from the record, IMHO. The idea that it's harmful for a group of 14 year olds to look at nude sexual pictures is asinine (ps - i'm not a fan of obscenity laws even though they are constitutional). On the other hand, the kid should be punished for hurting the other student in retaliation though.

Not only that, but the idea of charging a minor for "corrupting" those his own age is even more rediculous.

The "harmful to minors" law would be intended to actually target adults, who are able to legally acquire such content, that make that content available to children. In that sense, having it be a felony makes sense as it is intended to act as a strong deterrent.

However, charging a minor for providing content which is deemed to be "harmful to minors" to other minors is overkill and more than a bit ridiculous.

..."However, charging a minor for providing content which is deemed to be "harmful to minors" to other minors is overkill and more than a bit ridiculous."...

Yay, that's what i meant. But still i think making it a felony even if it's a adult showing it to a teenager is pretty extreme. Unless the adult was showing it to the minor in a such a way that the adult was trying to have sex with the minor. Then i can understand it being a felony (as well as some other felonies added in there to). But if some guy was just showing some of his Hustler collection to a 14 or 15 year old teen, a felony is way overboard, IMHO.

I'm suprised it didnt happen sooner. Sheesh when the PSP came out I saw kids watching porn on it. My friends and I even came up with a prank involving the porn on one guys PSP fr use in chemistry. I think the kid was just an idiot for giving it out to people and actually getting caught. Shame on the parents, but the kid is just stupid.

Seriously...I don't think that the parents really gave any thought to the PSP being able to play porn when they bought if for their child. They probably expected their child to...I dunno...play games on the machine. Kids have been going behind their parent's backs to get porn for about as long as porn as been available. Just about the only way that a parent could ensure that their child is not exposed to or allowed to have any sort of content that they do not deem suitable would be by not allowing their child to have any freedom whatsoever. And I find that not allowing your child to have any freedom at all is a much stronger issue involving parental failure than kids occasionally getting their hands on adult content. But that's not to say that parents should let it be too easy.

Eh, I'll let the parents off the hook on this one. It's so ridiculously easy for an internet user to download porn without anyone knowing about it.

Back when I was in school, very very few would have tattled... and we knew which ones would. And if someone HAD tattled they would have the snot beat out of them. Maybe video games are making kids wussier? I mean, wtf, a KEY? That's almost as bad as throwing a SHOE at someone (appologies to Austin Powers).

That should be apologies to Random Task. zero_beat_x May 2 2006, 22:51:32 UTC
