maybe now people will have some sensesapper982May 1 2006, 13:08:29 UTC
Seeing that its now Dr. joyce Brothers speaking for a general concern towards legislation, maybe parents who think lets jump on the legislation bandwagon will actually think before they start supporting causes and laws that could harm the very basis of this country.
"In the long run, children seem to be much more influenced by observing how their parents behave with each other, how they handle problems and crises, and what their ethics and beliefs are than by what they see or hear from others."
Exactly. Dr. Brothers gets it. Jack never could, as he's blinded by his egotism and hatred.
Right on except for two things...bigman_kMay 1 2006, 13:08:43 UTC
Dr. Joyce got it right on except for two things. One, violent video games are not marketed towards children, and two, there is no evidence proving a casual link between violent media and violent or aggressive behavior in kids. Most of those studies claiming so are extremely weak, inconsistant, incredibly flawed and of course researcher biased.
no surprises there ...verbinatorMay 1 2006, 13:15:53 UTC
At least if you've been around and in the game biz for a long time. In the 1980s Dr. Brothers was a supporter of the game Dungeons & Dragons, finding a great deal of value in it for young players.
And her message is pretty much the same as the industry message which sort of boils down to "Responsible parenting trumps all."
Dr. Phil says...not muchtimed95May 1 2006, 17:00:54 UTC
He mentioned the hot coffee thing (or maybe San Andreas in general) alongside Sin City in a pamphlet warning parents about the evils and temptations of college life for their kids going away.
Nothing else though, I would agree with the whole "money-grubbing" thing, but soften it to career stance/choices since it seems it's his sthick to be the guy looking out for mothers today or whatever but he doesn't seem hell-bent on lawsuits or directly sucking money out of places. I believe he relies more on self-help books then anything else.

A slight difference in interpretation, but what a difference it makes. :)
