correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't it also "encourage" people to fight corrupt city governments as well?

Yeah, I know what they mean. I played Halo and thought killing the covenant was fun. So naturally, I went out, built an interstellar space ship, flew to a ring world, and battled the covies. Good fun.

pfft, that's nothing, I built a time machine went back to the beaches of normandy and helped fight in WWII because it was so fun.

Then I got into genetic experamints and created a tiger that stood on two legs and fallowed my every command (and he grows to be something like 100 feet tall) cause it was so fun in black & white 2.

oh oh and don't forget, remember when you heard about a full scale war against a Psyonic army (Command & Conquer 2: Yuris revenge)? yeah I helped stop him, by controlling BOTH the US & Russian armys!

and let's not forget that alien invasion where they turned the whole world into a concentration camp, you guys remember that? how we helped that guy with glasses stop them?

I have to admit, the notion that someone might try graffiti after playing a game with that focus is much more realistic than people going on killing sprees because of videogames.

Having said that, I don't recall any huge boom in the amount of graffiti I saw anywhere following the release of either of the Jet Grind Radio.

Basically, that wasn't released in the "Games are scary" era.

I disagree to a point.

There were concerns that such a boom would happen at least in a couple places here in California. As I recall part of the effort to prevent it was a graffiti contest, where people were provided a legitimate venue for showing it as an art.

Never heard anything about that. And I live in CA.

As long as they are only denouncing it, and not calling for a ban, I'm kewl.

Although this is a really sad way to deal with graffiti. Smart towns encourage artists to do murals and this removes a lot of the surfaces that can be "tagged". If you've still got graffiti, it means you've got a gang problem.

Correctamundo. Your typical graffitist won't ruin a fellow taggers work, especially if it's something to be admired. Unless they're jealous. :P

Most of the time.

This game promotes graffiti, and some people might play it and think it's fun on the game.

They could do the same with Jet Grind Radio. In fact, they have. Where's your comments about that?

The next step would be to try it for real.

Perhaps. I mean, I've played a lot of RPGS, and in conjunction with my affinity for medievel themes, they've inspired me to build various weapons and armor. But like the people who play graffiti games and decide to make some real graffiti, I'm in the minority.

The city should discourage people from purchasing the game.

Go ahead. I don't like it anyway either, but for different reasons.

Graffiti can be a detriment to the way people perceive your town. If you start allowing graffiti, then you start looking like the bad side of town and people think it's OK to do other bad stuff.

Then bust the people putting up graffiti. Simple as that. I guarantee you a good portion of them won't be gamers anyway.
