Hear Me Ship: A House Lannister Contest

Jul 09, 2012 06:00

Today marks the start of our first shipping contest at gameofships, and what better House to first sail into these uncharted seas than House Lannister? Luckily, the contest is a bit less complicated than the Lannister family members themselves.

Contest Rules
1. From the list of prompts below, create a shippy fanwork about a member of House Lannister using one or as many prompts as inspire you.

2. Fanworks may fall into three categories: drabbles (500 words or fewer), fics (over 500 words), and art (traditional or graphics).

3. You may submit up to three entries total, but only one per category.

4. You have until Saturday, July 21 to complete your entry(ies) and submit them to moderators.

5. The mods will then post all entries anonymously with a poll for community voting. Winners will receive shiny House Lannister banners.

Lyric/Quote Prompts

Honey you are a rock
Upon which I stand
And I come here to talk
I hope you understand
That green eyes
You're the one that I wanted to find
And anyone who tried to deny you
Must be out of their mind
(Coldplay, "Green Eyes")

"My sister and I, you will recollect, were twins, and you know how subtle are the links which bind two souls which are so closely allied." (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Adventure of the Speckled Band)

"A living dog is better than a dead lion." (Ecclesiastes 9:4)

I'm not here looking for absolution
Because I've found myself an old solution
This is his body, this is his love
Such selfish prayers, I can't get enough
(Florence + the Machine, "Bedroom Hymns")

"The lion is not so fierce as they paint him." (Jacula Prudentum by George Herbert)

"Money frees you from doing things you dislike. Since I dislike doing nearly everything, money is handy." (Groucho Marx)

Tremble for yourself, my man,
You know that you have seen this all before
Tremble Little Lion Man,
You'll never settle any of your scores
Your grace is wasted in your face,
Your boldness stands alone among the wreck
Now learn from your mother or else spend your days
Biting your own neck
(Mumford & Sons, "Little Lion Man")

"There is some magic in wealth, which can thus make persons pay their court to it, when it does not even benefit themselves. How strange it is, that a fool or knave, with riches, should be treated with more respect by the world, than a good man, or a wise man in poverty!" (Ann Radcliffe, The Mysteries of Udolpho)

You paint yourself white
And fill up with noise
But there'll be something missing
Now that you've found it, it's gone
Now that you feel it, you don't
You've gone off the rails
So don't get any big ideas
They're not gonna happen
You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking
(Radiohead, "Nude")

"We came into the world like brother and brother;
And now let's go hand in hand, not one before another."
(William Shakespeare, The Comedy of Errors)

"Masters, you ought to consider with yourselves: to bring in,-God shield us!-a lion among ladies, is a most dreadful thing; for there is not a more fearful wild-fowl than your lion living, and we ought to look to it." (William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream)

You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came fallin' on our heads
But they're just old light, they're just old light
Your hair was long when we first met
(Regina Spektor, "Samson")

If you have any questions, comment to this post or send an SOS to MrsTater, who'll be serving as your acting captain for this event. She'll do her best to answer in a little less snarky tone than a Lannister. ;)

We're looking forward to seeing what beautiful and clever shippy Lannister fanworks these prompts inspire. Remember--a Lannister always plays with her ships!
