Dreams of Home: Daenerys/JorahphoenikxsJuly 5 2012, 15:13:19 UTC
It occurs to her out of the blue one day as they are walking past a house with a red door in Qarth. The dream she had since she was a little girl, the only happy dream she ever remembers having, the one that made her feel safe, made her feel like she was at home, has vanished. She tries to pinpoint when exactly the dreams about her home with the red door stopped. She distinctly remembers having them when Drogo was still alive and they were riding with his kahlasaar. She also recalls having the dream at least once in the Red Waste. But somewhere between the heat of the desert and the comforts of Qarth, she stopped dreaming of home

This is the sweetest Dany/Jorah fic ever! I love the idea of them finding rest together in Qarth, and going together to look for a ship, and arguing occasionally but mostly just finding home in each other. It fits so perfectly with that moment in AGOT where they both confess to praying for home, and I just hold out hope that they'll find this together in the end. I really believe they could... Thank you for giving it to them!

When he left King's Landing all those moons ago on a mission of diplomacy, the Red Keep lay in a pile of stone and rubble, razed to the ground at Daenerys' command. He'd been confused at the time- it's your birthright, the home of your ancestors, what you've been fighting for... But she just shook her head, a not-quite-grin creeping across her face. "The Kingdoms don't need a dead legacy. They need a new beginning

OH GOODNESSSSSSS. This is so wonderful!! DANY AND THE RED DOOR gives me so many feels. And even though I love the concept of the Iron Throne in general (that a king should never rest easy upon a throne), I think I like the idea of Dany melting it down and forging it into weapons, and building her own throne even more. Fabulous choice!!
As always, your imagery is so beautiful and vivid. I love the easy but almost polite affection between them - it's an odd cross between lovers and siblings when he's JON and not in Ghost's body, and it's just wonderful and perfect and yessssss.

I think it must be from writing that fic for the asoiaf_exchange, but I have ALL the Dany feels these days. And YES THE RED DOOR MY HEART BLEEDS WITH SADNESS.
If Dany does end up ruling the kingdoms at the end of the series, I really like the idea of her trying to create something new. Even though her Targaryen heritage is symbolically important to her, she's kind of forged her own legacy already.

Okay, I admit, this isn't my pairing. I don't read a lot of stories with them, so I don't have anything to go off of, but I'll tell you, the part with the "only home she's ever known" was heart wrenching, to say the least. I keep re-reading that, and it just twists at me in the best way possible.
I'm not sure if it makes me happy or sad, though. I think it's supposed to make me happy, but I'm more sad than anything, for what Dany could have had, and for what she has lost - even what she has gained cannot replace it. It will always have a place in her heart.

She was as mad as the Mad King, by the time the war was over, but they never called her the Mad Queen, because she never wore the crown.
Some said she lost her mind when Jon Snow cut off the heads of her dragons (The Dragon has three heads, they mocked her in her defeat, and Daenerys now has none!) but her white-cloaked Lord Commander knew that she had broken before that, when she'd looked out on the cities to which she'd laid waste, burning them to the ground.
Red for fire, Daenerys had said, and tore the dragon banners from her standards and threw them into the smoldering piles of ash that had once been homes and houses of worship for the gods old and new. And red for blood.
There had been very little blood, in fact, because of all the fire. Save for her own, when Jorah found her in her tent, scrubbing her snow-white hands until they cracked and bled. The blood of my people…the blood of my children…the blood of little Hazzea…I can't get it off…It won't come off my hands… He'd bound Daenerys' hands in clean strips of white

But this prompt just lends itself to Dany or Dany/Jorah fanfic.
Lovely fic, my dear.
