My boyfriend's been trying to get me into watching more TV. He's a special fan of BBC, so after the success of Sherlock, he wanted me to give Luther a try. I couldn't get through the first episode.
that really sounds like something that would set off triggers for me too.I know several people and several ex's have told me all about how unrealistic and greedy I am,getting all this anger built up and there has been no physical harm or marks.Just because I have no marks on me,and ex's specifically never use certain words directly, does not mean their blameless. In an ideal world, this would be a good show that actually highlights how manipulation works and how the signs can look to others, but we don't live in an ideal world do we?
What I loathe on TV is where the man's abusive BS causes her to realize she loves him after all, and they live happily ever after. It's so false! So contrary to human nature! I hate it!
Wow. That sounds like a shitty show that doesn't need to be made or viewed. I think you're beyond totally justified - for having dealt with that yourself and as a non-triggered viewer because that is insulting.
I think they're trying to be all dark and gritty, with a tortured, twisted protagonist who struggles with his inner demons - at least that's what I heard about it in the promos. Just, you know, there are some demon-struggling I'm not interested in watching. And probably didn't even need to be made in the first place.
All the acting was phenomenal. It was just acting out stuff I've seen closely enough in real life to find it utterly repugnant.
I've been curious about the show since everyone raves about it. That sounds horrible and I can see why it was triggering. I don't blame you. I also can't say I'm too interested now in seeing it. Not a bad thing tho.
