...you know, I never heard about this effect of scarlet fever, and it explains Such A Lot. I've been through at least four cycles of ten fillings each, and currently use three toothbrushes for each brushing (I should use four, but one does not cooperate). My sympathies!

It was one of my dentists who let us know about that. He was old as the mountains and one day I had asked him why my teeth were always having problems while my brother (who like never brushed his teeth) was perfectly fine. And he asked if I'd had Scarlet Fever or another illness that my brother didn't get and I said yeah, I'd had Scarlet Fever but my brother hadn't gotten sick with it. Then he told me about how Scarlet Fever could effect the development of enamel on your teeth.

It's a load off one's conscience to have an explanation :) Best of dental luck from a fellow sufferer.

Congratulations on the fix and hooray for relief!! (I thought scarlet fever was wiped out, shows you what I know) Nothing worse than achy teeth. In college a friend of mine has all her teeth extracted because they hurt so much; I wonder now if she hadn't suffered from scarlet fever and not known it...

Congrats on your teeth. :) You'll have to give away your first born and an arm and a leg to even fix half in the US. I wonder why the dental is so much cheaper in Japan.
