It's the End of the World As I Knew It

I remain at a loss to describe the current state of affairs.  "Lockdown" has been thrown around by the pundits, but it isn't truly lockdown.  The term makes me think of prisoners post-riot, all locked into their snug little cells and banging tin cups on the bars.  And yet, if I had a tin cup and bars, I'd probably be banging on them too.  If ( Read more... )

In my state, the language says underlying conditions "include but are not limited to" the very serious ones which your state probably lists. So, while I feel a little uncomfortable that my doctor may vaccinate me soon (if she ever receives the darn things), I console myself that this distinction is up to her and she knows what's best. Also, a Dallas Morning News article recently said that, at the big county vaccination centers, they are not investigating if you say you have an underlying condition. They don't want to discourage anyone from getting the vaccine. Anyway, what I really wanted to say is damn, I meant to watch All Things Great and Small and apparently missed the first episode! Will have to wait for it in reruns I guess. I hope I don't end up waiting as long as I did for Downton Abbey which I only just watched last year. :p Is it good?

I am enjoying ACGS very much. It is not a remake of the original series so much as a retelling of the Herriot books. They've intentionally brought greater emphasis to the women in the story (especially Mrs. Hall) and while that means they need to play a bit loose with the original books, they remain very true to the characters. The veterinary information seems accurate so far, which I appreciate, and the characterizations are bit more human. I didn't expect to like it as much as the original series, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

Consider joining your local PBS station at a level that gives you access to PBS Passport. It'll give you the ability to stream this and most other current as well as many past PBS programming.
