We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle; easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we would still live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan....

Poor little kitty cat. I'm sorry.

How was she named?

She was named by her former owner. She was adopted from the organization that I did volunteer work for by an elderly retired lady. The woman had a stroke and needed to go into an assisted care community where Daisy could not follow. The woman's son and his family took Daisy in, which is when she was discovered to be a diabetic. I'm told she was also terrorized by the family's dog. Our organization has a policy that they will accept any cat back that they've adopted out, regardless of reason, so Daisy came back at six years of age as a frightened, uncontrolled diabetic. I had two diabetic cats at the time, so I was the logical one to foster her. I got her started on insulin, gradually acclimated her to the other cats in the household, and eventually let her out of the foster room and gave her free run of the house. From there it was just a matter of filling out a few forms, and she found her new forever home. That was ten years ago.
