The Underworld was burning.

Granted, just by being the center of all things evil and unholy, barring Hell of course, it was always burning in some way. But now it was literally on fire and demons who had once found sanctuary there were fleeing.

It wasn’t witches, wasn’t the Charmed Ones creating chaos like they always did. What was happening was beyond chaos. It was a full scale attack being launched on the forces of evil by one man.

Sam Winchester had invaded the Underworld and he wasn’t taking any prisoners.

He had a demon around the throat, flames licking at his hands as he squeezed, his eyes clear and harsh. Cloven hands clawed at his flesh but his skin did not break and the fury was evident in the taut lines of muscles. There was despair in his eyes.

A dark haired woman stood behind him, arms folded as she watched.

“Tell me how do I get to them?” Sam demanded, his voice low and rough.

“I don’t…know,” the demon choked out.

The hunter’s smile was cold as he flung the demon onto the ground and raised his arm. He focused his eyes on the demon and concentrated.

“That’s too bad,” he murmured and flames danced around the thing’s body, consuming it until all that was left was a pile of ash.

“Sam, you’re wasting time.” The woman came to stand beside him, her voice soft but firm.

“Ruby.” Sam drew out. “If I want your opinion, I’ll ask for it.” He moved through the ash that littered the ground from other demons and turned in a circle, scanning the darkness of the corners from any more that had cowered from him.

Not finding any, he turned back to Ruby and the new meat suit she was wearing. “Who else can give me answers?”

Before she could answer, there was a tinkling sound in the air and blue orbs appeared before them, fading into the figure of a blond haired, blue eyed man.

Sam cocked his head and smiled coldly. “I’ve been looking for you guys. You Angel types are hard to find.”

“I know,” the man breathed softly. “But you have to stop looking.”

Sam’s face hardened .“I want my brother back, Leo.”

Leo Wyatt, Elder, nodded. “Okay, but we’re going to have to work fast. A lot of the other Elders are against this.” He paused before telling Sam hesitantly. “And there are some requirements you’re not going to like.”

Sam’s hands clenched into fists at his sides and his mask slipped as he shook his head. “I don’t care. I’ll do anything.”

Leo moved forward to place his hand on Sam’s shoulder. “I know. But you won’t have to. Pulling someone out of hell isn’t easy, especially when they sold their souls. Dean has to give something.”

Sam swallowed, his voice desperate. “Dean’s done enough.”

Leo’s eyes were sad. “The Elders want more from him. They want to make him into a Whitelighter.”

There was a silence that was broken by a loud snort from Ruby. She shook her head, a laugh bubbling out from her lips. “You want to turn Dean Winchester into an Angel,” she spat, scorn in her voice. “You’re that desperate.”

“Shut up,” Sam ordered her harshly and she did, rolling her eyes. He turned back to Leo, taking a deep breath, and nodded. “Do it. Just please bring him back.”

Leo squeezed his shoulder once more before pulling away. “Okay.” He took a step back and his eyes locked with Sam’s as he disappeared in a shower of blue lights. When the lights faded, Sam hung his head and took in a deep breath.

Dean wouldn’t like this. Being made into an Angel, of all things, but it was the only way. He would be back, he would be alive. Dean would be back.

He felt Ruby’s hand on his arm and he managed to get out, “We should leave.” He felt her nod and the flames once again licked his body. It didn’t hurt him, demon blood ran in his veins and there were a lot of things that didn’t hurt him anymore.

She flamed them out of the Underworld and back to the rundown hotel Sam was staying at. He could feel her hand still on his skin but it didn’t matter. Dean was coming back. Sam had finally gotten the attention of the Elders and he would have his brother back.
