Landon and Jamie were sitting in her room, Landon reading to her from her mother’s book when the knock came.

Landon stood to open the door when a blond poked her head in, “Jamie?”

Jamie smiled brightly at the new face, “Chloe!”

Chloe smiled back as she walked over to give the bed-ridden girl a hug. “Hey.”

“I can’t believe you’re here!” Jamie exclaimed. “What are you doing here?”

Chloe sat down next to her on the bed. “Your dad called to tell me what was going on. And he told me about the wedding, since my invitation seemed to have gotten lost in the mail,” she said, chiding the brunette.

“I’m sorry. It was a really quick, local thing. I didn’t even get to do any of the planning, he wouldn’t let me.” Jamie explained, smiling up at Landon, standing by the door.

Chloe looked up, realizing that they had company. Standing, she extended her hand to his, “You must be the husband.”

“Landon,” he answered, grasping her hand.

“Chloe.”

Jamie smiled at the two from her spot, “Landon, Chloe was my best friend until the eighth grade, when she moved away.”

Landon looked at the short blond curiously, “That’s odd, I don’t remember you. And I’ve been in the same class as Jamie since preschool.”

“Oh, I didn’t go school with you guys.” Chloe corrected. “Actually we met when I was… asking the reverend some questions.”

“More like interrogating him on the existence of God,” Jamie smiled.

“Well, I’ve always been a reporter,” Chloe said, smiling wryly.

“Definitely.” Jamie smiled back.

“Well,” Landon said, “I’ll let you two catch up.”

“Thanks,” Jamie said, smiling as he leaned down to kiss her cheek.

Chloe watched as he left the room before turning back to her friend. Sitting down, she reached into the bag slung over her shoulder. “Anyways, I’ve got presents!”

“First, the obligatory chocolate,” she handed over a brightly wrapped box.

“And this, is a necklace I got for you,” Chloe continued, handing over a long jewelry box. Jamie opened it to see a gorgeous black cross, hanging off a chain. “It’s made from a meteor rock.”

Jamie looked up at her friend wide-eyed. She’d heard the theories.

Chloe laughed, “Don’t worry. I checked, it’s radioactive-free, and colorless. Everything points to the theory that green meteor rock is what makes people crazy.”

“Thanks, Chlo, It’s beautiful.” Jamie said sincerely.

Chloe smiled softly and hugged her friend again. “I love you, Jamie.”
